Looking to upgrade my graphics card from a Radeon 6800, advice needed.

Hi, I currently have an AMD Radeon 6800 HD that has served me well for a few years now but recently its started to vibrate a bit no matter how much I clean and I think its time for a bit of an upgrade.

I don't have much cash to spare, about $100-130AU, so I was thinking of a ASUS GeForce GT 730, 2GB. Would this be an upgrade, a sidegrade, or a downgrade? I'm looking at two versions of the same card for similar prices, one has a fan the other doesn't. Which would be better? Also my current card takes two slots, these ones only take on and don't seem to have a power connector? Is that something I should be caring about?

what 68xx card was it?

6870 is close to a gtx 750

$100 aud will not get a better gpu

look on ebay for gpu fan replacements for it

Downgrade, probably.

You need to save up more money and get a GTX 750Ti at the very least. A GTX 950 would be better.

GT 730 won't be an upgrade may even be a downgrade, gtx750ti sits around the hd6950/70 so that would be an upgrade, 260x trades blows with the 750ti and the 270/270x/370/gtx950 are noticeably better than the 750ti.

Ps, I was running 6870s xfire and went to the 280x for the added vram, the 1GB vram on those cards aren't the greatest in new games I still have a 6870 in a spare pc.

Would you happen to know how much extra power a 950 would draw? I'm not exactly sure how big my PSU is and if I saved a little longer for a 950 (the ones I'm looking at are $250) there definitely wouldn't be any money left for a PSU upgrade as well.

the gtx 950 is a 90w card the lowest 6800 series is a hd 6850 @ over 120w your existing card requires more from the psu

A 750 Ti is a decent card, IMHO still a waste of money. I'd look into a 950, or a used 760 (~120-150 AUD)

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series, 1024 GDDR5 Ram. That's what I'm getting from the control panel anyway.

A used GTX 680 would be good if you can find one at a good price and if your PSU can handle it. It was the crown jewel of NVIDIA GPUs back in those days.

Yup the gtx680 trades blows with the gtx960 so if you can find a used 680 you'd be doing good but it's a 195w part.
