Molex (EIDE) to SATA converters, are they "safe" for SSD?
So, I came in to a problem installing my SSD.. I ran out of SATA hookups on the PSU.

Is something like this fairly safe and reliable? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200061&cm_re=molex_to_sata_power-_-12-200-061-_-Product

Of course are safe; but how do u run out of SATA power on your PSU?
Even a cheap PSU should have roughly 4 - 6 SATA power.
If you get such an adapter, I suggest the "Right Angle" version.

What PSU and Motherboard do you have?

yes, molex -> sata adapters do not have the 3.3v rail
but so far no drives require it
You could also get a SATA power splitter type of adapter cable if u wish to avoid using Molex.

I have them, but I'd have to go twisting and bending ♥♥♥♥ around and moving stuff about.. I'd rather just pop the coverter on a loose one instead of knocking something around.
Molex to SATA adapters are notorious fire hazards. I wouldn't trust one in my PC.

Google "molex to sata fire" if you think I'm exaggerating.

Well that aint good.
That is complete BS really.
Why are they a hazard? SATA power are the same thing as molex really, they just have that SATA-spec'd keyed connection is all.

And the OP does not have to buy such adapter anyways (see my Post above, #3)

I could probably start yanking and pulling and twisting my cables about to try and get them hooked up on the PSU without an adapater.. But man I really wouldn't want to.
To avoid an adapter I installed the SSD up/down style.

is this OK for them ? Since they aren't spinning.

That is a lot of dust... it is in piles. Almost looks like saw dust.

An SSD can be mounted in any orientation.
All that dust? WTF...

Take that thing outside or in the garage and blow ALL the dust out.
And SSD can just lay inside, don't even need to mount it.
Or just double-sided tape it to the top of your optical drive; or elsewhere.
or if its that dusty, odds are he doenst move it much

but when it is moved, it may wonder around if its not fastened down
the china rail adapter is under $1, worth it imho
But seriously, take the tower and get all that dust blown out.
Dust is major reason hardware die quicker.
