Monitor playing up? (FIXED)
I got a new monitor recently (Acer XB271HU), and it randomly loses signal whenever I'm ingame. This only seems to happen in Witcher 3, oddly enough. Pressing Esc. instantly brings gives me the signal back, but this is very annoying in intense situations. Any ideas?

check the cable

hdmi is not alwasy a secure connection

use dvi or dp if the gpu and monitor have them

What kind of video connectors does it have?

I don't want to be one of these people selling snake oil, but I have found that when you're sending higher refresh rates and resolutions through HDMI, the 'quality' of the HDMI cable does actually matter.

Believe me, I don't want to sound like someone perpetuating some great HDMI cable scam, like "BUY A $100 MONSTER CABLE" or anything, but you might want to look into it.

So, for example, I found that just a regular cheap hdmi cable wouldn't work with the ARC send and return feature on my sony bravia tv to sony hi-fi, possibly because it wouldn't carry enough bandwidth. But the ARC feature would work with a fancy looking £30 monster cable that my mum and dad had (they more or less got scammed with it, at the time, as it was only for sending a 1080p 60hz signal). But now, it's useful.

Yeah, that would be my advice too. But I think his monitor only has hdmi (and usb, which I know absolutely nothing about)

many cheap hdmi cables have poor connectors, which come loose easily or make poor connections causing interruptions when the pc or monitor are bumped

I'm using a DisplayPort cable exclusively

Indeed, but I also think there's something else about using different hdmi cables, not just whether it's connected or not.

For example, I can get a 1920x1080 120hz signal with a custom resolution/custom timings from nvidia control panel from my 750ti to my LG W2363D. But some of my other HDMI cables won't do it.

Of course, the monitor also has a dvi dual link port, so I use that of course.

hmm, so bandwidth shouldn't be an issue at all then.

Have you got anything else plugged into the monitor, or just the PC with the DP?

I have a ps4 controller, a USB, and some other cord plugged in. The port with the mysterious cord has a squiggly line on it, right above where you plug it in. (The same spot that normally has HDMI or DP written on it)

It's a 1440p/144hz gsync monitor. It would be foolish to use anything other than DP.

I found out why the monitor "randomly" lost signal: I had the power options set so that the monitor would sleep after 30 minutes of keyboard inactivity (I was using controller)

I know. But when I typed that monitors name into google, this was the first result:

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-acer-xb271hu-g-sync-led-monitor-165hz-ips-panel-2560x1440-4ms-1000000001-hdmi-dp-usb-2x-speakers-

So I was misled by that.

All good. Only reason I knew was because I debated between that and the Asus PG279Q for months lol(went with asus).

This sounds like a problem of your graphics card.
Try to use another connection.
For example from display port to hdmi.

I'm using a XB271HU myself and so far it's been smooth sailing. (pretty damn great screen tbh) However i did read about some firmware problems ACER hasn't adressed yet. They seem to be amplified by using the 165Hz overclock. So i would stay away from that for now.

I'm sorry to hijack the thread, but as your issue seems to be solved, I have a little question.

Does anyone know why I can't set my Monitor to 60htz when using a DP cable, while using a DP cable 100htz is the lowest refresh rate I can set, but 60htz works fine using HDMI or DVI cables.
