EVGA RTX 2080 TI SC Gaming

Was thinking of getting a RTX 2080 TI since my GPU is my bottleneck with a GTX 1060, was just wondering if that would be a good fit or if it would be overkill, not too happy about the price but I don't like seeing the system so under-utilized. Also wondering if someone could recommend an easy watercooling solution that is self contained like maybe those EVGA hybrid coolers if they're worth it. I was looking into the HYDRO COPPER ones too but those look like they are just one component for a full system though please correct me if I'm wrong because those look pretty nice.

Doesn't seem like there's much room for improvement at 1080p but it's such a shame to have that much unused potential. Still no 4K monitor but that's easily remedied inside of a couple months, I have a 4K TV that's easily connected too.

Zotac RTX 2080 Ti AMP Extreme

They are pretty much the best models from each manufacturer, and are worth getting if you're going to shoot for the best anyway.

EDIT: Also the numbers seem almost identical between that model and the SC Gaming, main difference seems to be the 3 fan cooler unless I'm missing something? Just wondering what the 100 dollars more really buys you.
EDIT AGAIN: Actually that was for just the regular FTW3 Gaming not the ultra, still curious though.

Not really, the triple fan coolers for the RTX cards tend to be more than enough. My 2080 never goes above the mid 50s. Any serious overclocking would warrant a custom loop anyway as that's what it'll take to really push the limits of these coolers as many of them are quite beefy, even on the cheaper model 2080s.
Also, similarly to CPUs, RTX cards will downclock themselves when they aren't doing anything to conserve power and allow the card to run cool with the fans stopped; my 2080 goes from 300 core/450 memory all the way up to 1980 core/7000 memory, and when at the lowest clocks it runs idle in the mid 20s with the fans completely stopped. It kind of reminds me of how Ryzen handles SenseMI.

Cool, thanks for the info. as for the rest would you say I could pretty much just get a decent 4K monitor and call it a day?

Match the gpu against the monitor specs and the games you wisjh to play e.g. as the following article does. Make sure that you note the x-axis scale otherwise the bar plots can be misleading.

It is usually worth buying a good gpu for longevity, but in the 2080 ti's case, a little bit extra performance costs a lot.

When will the next gen cards be released, if nvidia sticks to its annual cycle? 7 months? If it was me, I'd wait for the next gen.

The evga cards seem to be the best rtx models from what I have heard.

If going 4k then AA and similar effects might be pointless, in which case fps increases. 2080 performance might be quite good if ultra graphics aren't used. 1080 ti is, so 2080 should be too.

If looking at a 2080ti, honestly, just go with a founders, they seem to achieve the best clock speeds annoyingly, I kind of wished I'd save the £300 on my ftw3 ultra and put it into the custom loop fund, this generation are limited so much by power, that the custom cards really don't seem to have any advantage and founders cards seem to all have really good chips.

As for a screen, go for a 1440p 144Hz GSYNC model or perhaps a 100Hz 3440x1440 ultra wide, the added fluidity is worth it over the resolution bump of 4k.

I'll keep that in mind, just been using a cheap 27 inch sceptre but for 127 bucks the thing has paid for itself already. Had my eye on those ultra wide monitors for a while though I'm not sure about game support or anything at this point. I work in a warehouse and see a lot of them.

Escorve's list is spot on, for staying on air. The FTW and Trio were pushing ever so slightly better numbers as of a few weeks ago.

If you are sure to stay on air the Zotac AMP typically have overbuilt coolers.

Founders Eddition for water for sure.

I'd taken Monk's same advice on that a while back, good thing, I would not have for a 3rd party card, they are huge. Like 2" to 3" longer than the FE.

I was a huge fan of zotac for years, the 5 year warranty, amazing coolers and being amongst the fastest cards available were big pros, hell, my 670 amp nearly matched a stock 680, however, they dropped the ball big time on pascal with large but pretty inefficient coolers leading to bottom of the pack performance, it's why I swapped to evga for my 1080ti's when I upgraded from my zotac 980 amp extremes, I've not seen any numbers on zotacs 2080ti amp extremes, but I'd be wary after how bad the pascal cards were, sadly.

Also, the 5 year warranty doesn't apply everywhere.

I only got a 4 year warranty from Gigabyte for my 2080 and only saw 4 year on the Ti cards
