Which usually is the better choice anyway. Usually you can downmix 5.1/7.1 sound to Stereo in your soundcard and still have the surround sound. That way generally sounds better on a Stereo headset than a "real" surround sound headset as using that many tiny drivers leads to inferior sound.
With techniques like Dolby Atmos you get amazing surround sound on Stereo headphones.

agree just get the ATH-M50x and a decent mic like the modmic, and enable Sonic or whatever vsurround software of your choice. Shame on audio-technica for this overpriced abomination...
