55 Celsius Degrees in Idle
Ok so my video card, a Zotac 1060 6GB AMP! Edition, in idle reaches 54-56 degrees in idle, is that normal?
Thanks.

No, that doesn't sound right. Adjust the fan curve.

How much should be high a temperature of a gpu in idle?

I've got a Zotac 980 Ti AMP Extreme in a CM 690 III case and that rarely hits 65c under load (@1080p with a global 60FPS cap) and idles around 28c with a 30c = 20%, 50c =50%, 80c = 80%, 88c = 100% fan profile.

If you have MSI Afterburner installed have a look at what the fan speed is when the card is idle, chances are the fan isn't kicking in till the card reaches 50c~55c, if I recall it was the same with my card which is why I set it to come on low @ 30c.

can you send me one of those 9080ti's from the future? i'd like to see how it handles Crysis :P

Yes, that's fine. Don't worry about it.

Bad case cooling
Having NVIDIA's power setting set to Performance
Background processes using the GPU

3 things that can cause a GPUs temps to be high at idle
Grab MSI AfterBurner or GPU-Z and check your idle clock speeds. If your card is sitting at 1500-1700 mhz core speed when idle at windows desktop then it's bugged. A friend of mine had this problem yesterday with the latest nvidia drivers on a GTX 1060 6GB. At my suggestion he went backwards to nvidia driver 417.71 (uninstall + DDU in safe mode + download specific older driver). After switching to the older driver his 1060 dropped down to 300 mhz idle speed and his idle temps dropped to around 38-43c. If you are unable to find the older driver on nvidia's website I could provide you a direct link if you would like. Just tell me what OS you're using.

Define "idle"
Also be aware that as is always the case "nvidia" drivers of the latest revision can cause all sorts of "bugs" & problems.

But with an ambient of 22 Deg.... my 1070 is sitting at about 36 deg c.... that's driving 2 * 1080i monitors
NO over clocking & no messing about with an OC on the GPU, basically a stock card.
And.. my 1080 Ti idles at 20-23c and has never been above 50c a day in it's life since I bought it... even running it at 2126 mhz core, +700 ram and 1.200v core voltage. I kinda cheat with a huge 4-radiator water loop though. -_-

Ok i fixed with a new fan curve setting, now my temp is 41 degrees.
Thanks you all! <3

Thats still kinda high for idle, and you never replied to what i said

My second computer with a GTX-1060-3GB idles at 36~43c and it's air-cooled with two fans. This is actually normal for an air cooled card.

Its only normal with lacking airflow and if you have Performance set in the NVIDIA power setting.

With Performance mode set, any small amount of GPU usage will raise the clocks increasing idle GPU temps.

This is why i brought this up to the OP.

And for the record, my 1060 6GB is idling at 28C in a room with an ambient of around 66F.
This is because even though i have a small amount of GPU usage with what i'm doing, i dont have Performance set in the Power settings in the NVIDIA CP.
