How Do I Install A .Rar Mod?

so i wanted to download a weapon mod for a stalker game, but it came in a .rar file. now i am not a tech wizard or anything so i dont really know how to install it. i have a idea i think, but i dont want to ♥♥♥♥ up my game, so how do i install it?

Extract it using Winrar and go to program x86 -> steam -> steamapps -> common -> game

so i open up winrar, i click the .rar file i download an i extract it to my game file?

may be different for each game

but, yea, extract the rar to where it needs to go in the games folders

7zip can also extract .rar files and it's better than winrar (no trial messages)

Also, please look here about Mods, how the GameData folder works, etc.

Also some Mods might not work together, depending on their intended changes.

Many mods might also require that you start a new game too.
