Steam Deck
I'm looking to buy the steam deck. I have several questions.

1. What has been your experience with the steam deck?

2. In the desktop mode, is it possible to install/use Google remote desktop?

3. Does steam deck support USB C DP alt mode? A portable monitor I was considering using with the deck requires it. The monitor in question: https://www.newegg.com/p/0JC-00JS-00004?Item=9SIASAMCA34152&quicklink=true

Another monitor I'm considering if the first one isnt compatible: https://www.newegg.com/msi-optix-mag162v-15-6-full-hd/p/N82E16824475167?Item=N82E16824475167&quicklink=true

4. Are you using the official dock or a third party one? What has been your experience with it? The third party dock I'm planning on getting: https://www.jsaux.com/products/upgraded-docking-station-for-steam-deck

Any answers and suggestions are welcome

1. Great

2. Yes and no.

You can only install it if you switch the Steam Deck over to developer mode, don't do this as it will disable read-only on the Deck's root file system. This could potentially hurt system stability, especially if you start messing with the system.

If you want to connect to other devices consider using SSH, VNC or RDP. Using any of these does not require you to switch the Deck to developer mode.

An OpenSSH client and server are installed by default. There are lots of Flatpak applications available in the Discover app store which can be used as s VNC or RPD client.

3. As per the Steam Deck's spec sheet; "USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt-mode support; up to 8K @60Hz or 4K @120Hz, USB 3.2 Gen 2"

4. Nearly any USB-C dock should work, it does not have to be a Steam Deck specific dock. The Deck just runs Linux, you can throw nearly any hardware at it, it is likely to just work.
