Need urgent help. High end pc slowed down to a crawl/massive load on idle

Before it happened:

Let me explain what I've been doing before it happened. I remember yesterday tweaking graphics settings for an F2P game called Planetside 2 and it ran fine for the few hours I played it. After that I fiddled around with some Workshop mods for a game called Project Zomboid and let it run for 700 minutes because I fell asleep.



When it happened:

When I woke up, I shut the game and my pc down for a few hours and then restarted it to play Planetside 2 again. Noticed the unsually long load time which was atleast 5 times longer than usual and I literally had 1. 1! fps at the "Deployment screen". 1 fps. I always get around atleast 60-120 fps depending on whats going on in the game background. It did get better to around 10 fps after around a minute or so, but it didn't go up. I tried to press log out to go back to the menu screen, but it was so laggy I had to ctrl alt del sign out of my pc to shut down the program. Running win 10 btw. Anyways, I tried restarting the game and same thing, but SLIGHTLY better fps at around 10 and I managed to TRY to spawn somewhere. Again it took a massive amount of time and the furthest I ever got was seeing my hud and the barrel of my gun and some very low graphic models ingame and then the game just froze to loading at the speed of a 1980 processor or something. Managed to task manager close it somehow this time. I noticed my computer was a bit slower as well on Steam.



Questions, etc

What could be causing this? I've had instances before on win 7 for example when I left a game on and fell asleep and it didn't suddenly get slowed down to a 50 euro scrap you can find at someones yard sale. What is going on? Is there any way I can "diagnose" this massive slowdown? And to reassure you, yes, I didn't put the graphics too high yesterday.


My pc specs are moderately high at a GTX 970 i5-4690k and 8gb of ram. Did win 10 get an update or something? All I know is that damn, it's impossible to play a game when the deployment hud screen gets 10 fps and I can't even spawn in the "spawn hub" area with like 2 other guys getting some air vechiles seldom.

I noticed that Steam is the most affected. Mozilla Firefox ran probably at 85 to 95% the normal speed it runs. Sorry for the bad english, panic attack making me ramble on...

I restored NVIDIAL Control Panel 3D settings to default.I left Adjust image settings with preview to Use the advanced 3D image settings with emphasis on max performance.
I restarted my PC and the heat was down to 59c

I maxed out the fan in an overclocking tab and got these results after a few mins.

I will set the fan back to auto now and I got some of the heat back. I will monitor it for around 5 minutes and edit this post to give you the results.

Edit: Little over 5 minutes passed with fan set on auto and the heat has risen to 43c with 0 RPM on the fans. I belive it might still rise, but it slowed down a bit compared to how fast it went from the min 35 to 39 for example.

The GPU should run at right around, or just above room temp with GPU Fan on Auto pretty much the entire time you're not running a GPU-demanding app

All u should need to do is have that hardware monitor running; look in Task Manager at all the systems apps running, close them out one by one until you find the culprit. Things like Logitech Gaming Software are known to be one of them.

When u close a background app, allow a few seconds of time before closing another app, so u can look at the GPU temp and see if it has dropped after closing an app or not.

Anything that has an icon in notification bar (like Steam) exit those properly, rather than force closing them via Task Manager.

When u find the culprit, go into NVIDIA CP > Manage 3D Setings > Program Settings tab > find the app's .EXE file (or add it to the list manually) and then change it's Power Management option to Adaptive, then click Apply.

It never includes any sensitive data; like your OS product key or anything like that. Yes SPECCY can reveal that when YOU look on your system under Operating System; but the Snapshot leaves out sensitive data like that.

But it's more helpful than say CPU-Z in this case, cause it gives a run-down of all the background apps.

I know that, but there is 1 thing I am too lazy to change which is SORTA personal that affects pretty much nothing, but I'm just paranoid like that so I don't feel like sending the whole list. Which parts do you want? Services? Dunno.
