Place I worked at, the LCD TVs they had mounted in cases for drive thru lanes at fast food places, if the AC unit failed in the summer, the screens would over heat and you'd see discoloration and eventually the screen would fade to black.
It could be possible a loose video cable connection.
If the laptop is new and it's still covered under warranty, you'd probably be best to getting it fixed.
try to "shake" the display away from you - to yourself - if the artifacts appear / disappear it fractures the data & power wire of display driver in area in the cover mounting hings http://pile2.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Dell-Inspiron-15-7559-Review-inner-parts-1.jpg in this photo on the right side under the SSD .M2 goes around the right fan
matrix may cracked? how tough bag?
if there was a photo could be understood ... maybe liquid has been spilled? a stiff frame and hit on the LCD panel driver?
They won't do that; not unless it is new enough that you can return to seller (place of purchase) but again you have your Dell Warranty; use it. Have them fix or replace it.
Last time I had to send in a customer's Alienware laptop; that was the turn-around time. And that was for a problem hardware issue that they wanted to see first-hand. So they asked us to ship in for repairs instead of doing the on-site-tech-repair option.
But I guess that depends on the issues and where YOU are located and such.
Anyways yea they should ship u a pre-paid box with proper padding and all for shipping the laptop back. What you want to ensure you do though; either wipe or reset the OS clean; or totally remove anything personal off the Drive(s) in the laptop before u ever send to anyone for repairs. If you know for sure they are replacing it; just offload any personal files from the system, then totally wipe the drive clean. They don't care if it's wiped clean, they can reload it again with their OEM OS edition should the system get refurbished, etc.
