I really don't think anyone can tell you with certainty until it's released to the general public.

Ps, it'll work fine but I think you want to know how bad the i3 4160 might choke it and that's where it'll just be a guess at this point unless someone else has the inside skinny.

2:40 ^.That'll give you the general idea of what's going to happen depending on game

If your motherboard supports PCI 3.0 and you have all 16 PCI lanes open, as in no other PCI devices, you'll be fine honestly. That CPU will be maxed out trying to keep up, but if you throw 8GB+ Ram at it, you'll be fine. This is a perfect example of when SSD technology would be useful, the CPU would spend less time on read/write, and more time crunching data for processes.
i have a h97 asrock fatal1ty performance motherboard 16gb ram i3 4160 crossfire 260x atm but want to upgrade the cards because there old now
Yep, you're golden imho. You can squeeze more out of the 1070 with other optional parts but for the meager gains, don't bother unless you have the money and love the hobby of building PC's. You will see an INCREDIBLE gain already, you'll be pleased with it.

Your ram amount won't make your cpu keep up and pci e lanes is just not applicable.

Wait until it's released you're just going to get wild guesses and weird stuff.
Might bottleneck but you'll definitely get more performance upgrading your GPU first than your CPU.

You forgot the "straya tax" I don't see it selling for less than $700 at launch.
You're doing it all backwards lol. You have a 390x and you want to upgrade the GPU first?
The CPU's are cheap now, you want to pay a premium for a brand new GPU and then go for a CPU when it'll be a rarer find on the market?

edit: was going off your profile for GPU but my point is still valid.

I would wait for cards designed from NVidia board partners. Reference cards have mediocre
cooling and you overclock at your own risk whereas the custom designs of board partners are
factory overclocked. I would also wait until AMD's Polaris hits the market and see if they have
something competitive in the midrange sector.
I expect the 1070 to be on par with the performance of the 980ti. So buying a 980ti might be an option as prices will drop significantly when the new cards are widely available.
You will see some CPU bottlenecks if you get a GTX 1070. At least an i5 is recommended for a GTX 1070.

Your i3 will be better matched when the gtx 1060 comes out.

AMD IS AIDS

The 1060 will be on par with a GTX 970. An i3 will be better paired with a GTX 960. You'll need an i5 for a GTX 1070 and an i7 or overclocked i5 for a GTX 1080.
im getting the 1070 no matter what, and then after i get the 1070 im upgrading my cpu to an i5 6600 or an i7 4690

Sounds fair enough. But remember, the i5-6600 is not compatible on your motherboard socket. You will want a 4000-series CPU which includes an i5-4690k. The i7-4790k is the best compatible CPU for that motherboard. For the 1070, I would suggest an i7-4790 if your motherboard does not support overclocking an i5-4690k.

how about this then, i buy a new motherboard and cpu, and then save for a the 1070?
