Does anyone know how to use 144hz monitor with a laptop ?

Laptop comes with Hdmi and mini display port .

Assuming games run at >144fps @1080p

HDMI does not support 144hz. I read there are a few versions of hdmi. The first ones only do 60hz @1080p, latest ones do up to 120hz. So it depends which version of hdmi your laptop has.

So your monitor has dvi or displayport ? Why use 2 adapters when you can go from mini displayport to dvi ?

Hi , I am hoping to get this Monitor , BenQ XL2411Z , to connect to my laptop as stated above .
I am new to this and I got confused when i googled about possible connections.

BenQ XL2411Z is a great pick for a gaming monitor.

However, what is your laptop monitor builtin refresh rate? And will you be using that still as a duel monitor setup? As the refresh rate should be ideally the same between two or more monitors.

Use a Mini-DP to DP cable - it would be the best option.

Right-click your Windows desktop > Display Settings.

You should see the monitors connected. Select and click on "Advanced Display Settings". Then go to "Display adapter properties". On the monitor tab, there will be a "Screen refresh rate" and drop down to pick. Hide modes that can't be displayed, then pick the highest.

Doh, I assumed it did (rather it's D-Sub, blah). Thanks for the correction.

HDMI can support up to 120Hz with version 1.4b or 2.0 cable. It's minor lost at least.

The actual difference between 120Hz and 144Hz is small / not noticable, except for 3D. 144Hz was designed for 3D monitors to less annoying the eyes. So your not missing out on much, if not using 3D.

That might be the best option now, since you can't use DisplayPort or Duel-Link DVI.

No it comes down to the actual laptop and it's pre-installed GPU(s); as that would help us better determine a yes or no here; or what you should use; as the port (DVI, HDMI, DP) would need to be a certain revision spec; for example "HDMI 1.4"

And in this day and age; I highly would not suggest any Monitor that does not have all of these available (DVI + HDMI + DP; 1x of each, minimum)

Please list the full laptop Model so we can determine if those ports all meet/exceed the requirements for such refresh rates.

My laptop contains
i7-4710hq , 980m 4gb , 16gb ram , 1tb hard disk , hdmi and mini dp port for display and 4k display .
