v-sync stuck at 30fps
I just went back to Fallout3, which I had not played for a while, and noticed some jitter so I used fraps to see what my frame rate was and it was 30fps. I have tried everything I can think of to uncap the frame rate but nothing worked, it is capped at 30fps. All my other games are fine, I get a steady 58 to 60 in Skyrim. my gpu is NVIDIA GTX 970 and I use GeForce Experience to maximize my games and then use the game launcher to tweak the settings to my preference. Any suggestions as to how to uncap the fps from 30 would be appreciated.

Check the v-sync setting in the NVIDIA control panel. It may have the v-sync set to adaptive (half-refresh rate).

What should it be set at?

Set v-sync to "on" to cap the fps to your monitor's refresh rate.

Thank you, will give ti a shot and get back to you with the result.

Did not work, still cannot get over 30fps. I checked my refresh rate just to be sure and it is still 60hz. FO3 still playing at a steady 30fps.

Is it possible it's a problem with the game itself? FO3 is notoriously buggy, and many games will default to 30fps with Vsync enabled; this may be one of them.

Make sure Vsync is disabled in-game (if it has the option) and make sure it's forced ON via the NVidia CP.

Also, if it doesn't support Triple Buffering, your frame rate will always drop to 30 with Vsync on any time you're below 60fps, no matter what you do. (well, unless you use Adaptive Vsync)

with vsync off are you getting over 60fps?

if not, then it will drop it to 30 with an occational 60

uninstall geforce experience and set the games setigns manually

I set v-sync off in launcher and on in NVIDIA control panel still the same; tried it with triple buffering on then off, no change. As I have played FO3 with geforce experience before with no problems I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling FO3. I hate to uninstall geforce experience as my other games work well with it. Thank you all for your input, wish me luck. I might try to verify my master files as is done with Skyrim first.

Uninstalled and reinstalled FO3 and am now running at a pretty steady 60fps. Have not optimized with geforce experience yet but will later and see if that was the problem. Forget what I said about the master files as I forgot I was not playing FO3 on Steam.

geforce experience causes more problems than it solves

Which is why I never install GeForce Experience. I just install the basic video and PhysX drivers. I can run nearly every game maxed at 60 fps, anyway, some with forced higher resolutions.

You can't run Fallout3 without modding it; folks should know this by now. It's been this way since Windows 7 released.

Yea that GFE thing, get that off the systems. You only need Forceware (the actual GPU Drivers + NVCP) and PhysX; nothing else.

Do not understand your statement about modding FO3 Bad-Motha as I do mod FO3 although only moderately, 34 mods, much less than FNV and Skyrim although about the same as Oblivion. As for GFE it works well for me if I optimize the game first and then I tweak the settings in Options, thru the game launcher and then do any changes in the games pref.ini; not saying that would work for everybody but it works for me.

If you use stutter remover it is defaulted at 30fps and has to be altered
