after 20 minutes or so my gpu
after around 20 minutes of my pc being on a game that is running fine 60 fps+ goes down and this is every game fallout 4 dark souls3 so on, its not overheating and after i exit the game i check msi gpu shark limitny policies gpu voltage limit reached is the error, i have tryed everything clean install clean drivers my pc has worked fine for over a year on furmark on limit it says power 1 when its working then after the 20 minute mark when the problem arises it changed to volt 1, to sum it up after 20 or so minutes of the pc being turned on my gpu even in idle goes to 99% usage and i cant work out the problem

so if someone could help that would be great new psu? graphics card broke? my psu has been more than enough to power my whole pc since i had it maybe it is on the way out thanks for the help


gtx 980 not overclocked
i7 4790k
8gb ram
windows 10

any help would be greatly appreciated :D

RMA the GPU and get it replaced. It's obviously not functioning properly if u getting loads like that just doing basics within OS Desktop; or when GPU is basically @ idle clocks.

But also; what is your PowerSupply brand+model and its age?

Have you tried another PSU, or tried this problematic 980 in another working machine? I would try that first before RMA'ing the GPU; but if this is shown to do this in another machine; then I fear it most likely is the GPU itself.

yea i was going to try it in another pc but i thought i might aswell ask before i go messing around with other peoples pcs since its running on amd and its a bit of a pain uninstalling there drivers for the 980 ones.

Control Panel > Uninstall NVIDIA (Forceware being the last one you do)

for the other person i mean i manged to find out what it was it seems to be a bitcoin miner disguised as a realtek driver

Then I would download and run ESET Free Online AV Scanner -and- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

i did both a couple days before i asked on here its a clever one isnt picked up by either but i just used procexp, it was coming up as path denied, i ended up just looking around in system 32 virus like this are always in there thanks for the help btw :D
