dark souls III Low FPS on a decent GPU, Help Please

hi, i have recently started playing dark souls 3 on my laptop but the frame rate absolutely crap. just to mention it makes no difference if i switch to low or max settings (i get 14-20 fps) on 1980 X1080p resolution.

Only if i lower the resolution is when i get 25-30 fps.

This is really frustrating as i have seen people playing this game on max resolution and max settings with my GPU on youtube and getting 45-50 fps.

Here are my specs:

intel core i7 4810mq
16gb ram
256 GB SSD + 1TB HD
8 GB Nvidia GTX 880m


All of my drivers are up to date. windows 10. My laptop's fan is working perfect and there is not heat issues. Please help

Have you enabled max performance mode in nvidia control panel? Sounds like iGPU acting up.

Your gpu is just barely above minimum requirement. Edit: Actually, i think it's below minimum requirements. It says it needs gtx750ti as minimum. Some sites say that gtx860m is equal to gtx750ti but others say that it's 2x worse...

So don't expect much. But you should probably get a bit higher framerate than that. Should check if the game is actually using the gpu and not integrated graphics. Also update nvidia drivers if you havent done that in a while.

i have checked on GPU Boss and my GPU meets the recommended requirement. 880m is high end and it can rund battlefield 4 on 50+fps at ultra settings

But i know for a fact that an 860m is not a high end gpu. Maybe for a laptop it can be considered high end, but overall, it's not.

Still i do think it should hit 60fps on at least low settings in ds3 so there is probably a problem somewhere.

please search for gtx 880m and click on notebookcheck and it will telll you that it is directx 12 enabled high end GPU. and at the end of the page you can see all the game it can run with FPS.

it is alot powerful than the gtx 750ti

all i was trying to say is that my GPU meets the recommended requirement so it should atleast run the game on more than 18 fps at high settings and 1920x1080

No it wouldn't.

I would make absolutely sure the game isn't using your integrated GPU first. Easiest way to do that is go to your BIOS and disable the iGPU (temporarily if desired). Should be in the advanced CPU options somewhere.

880m isn't "a lot more powerful" than the 750 Ti.

That said, you should be getting better performance than you are currently experiencing.

All your hardware drivers are up to date? Are you positive?

Try doing a clean install of your GPU driver. Use DDU in safe mode to remove the current driver, then reinstall latest GPU driver.

Ugh.. wish I rly could help more, but I have zero problems with dark souls 3 since release I can play with max setts, so no clue..

Do u have any background programms running? trying lower res. or so?
