Will this assist in finding what I need?
The problem with these PCs is that when you LOSE the Driver CD you are basicly "fked..".
For Mainboards like Asus Ranger Z97 you go on their website and you can download ALL Drivers. With Dell... tia. There must be something broken. I play with PCs now for 5 Years and never heard that i need to install SM BUS or USB Controller to install a Network driver.
BMW... you can drive a e36 or the new BMW M4...

Download and use the Dell Update Application:
http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02771663M/1/Application_56J82_WN32_1.4.2000.0_A07.EXE
Or you can do it manually:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/xps-8500/drivers
Pick "View a different product"
And work out your Dell model from the list.
Then under the "Drivers and Download" tab, automatically get the drivers or pick "Find it myself".
Install the Intel Chipset Driver(s) first, Bus Controllers if available, then the Realtek 8111E Network Driver. You can do the rest as desired: Audio, Wifi, Bluetooth, etc.
Check under your: Control Panel > Device Manager
There should be no "?" Unknown or "!" Error Conflicted devices, when fully installed correctly.
Universial Serial Bus Controller is for your USB ports.
USB version 2 might not need them, but USB 3 or 3.1 ports will for performance.
- Click Start.

- Click Search automatically for updated driver software, and follow the prompts.
Windows will normally have drivers available for this, else check Dell's driver list on their website.
