Will this card be compatible with my system?
So my current pc is a Dell XPS. I've had it for about 3 years now. It came pre built with an AMD Radeon HD 7500 graphics card. It is only has 1gb of memory and I have the opportunity to buy a 2gb EVGA Geforce GTX 660, new in box, for cheap off a friend of mine. I'm wondering if its compatible with my computer or not. If i need to post any more specs just let me know.

What PSU is the PC running? How many watts?

How can I find that?
What is the exact PC model #? XPS 8300, XPS 8500? What CPU?

Reason why I'm asking is because a high-powered Bloomfield, Sandy Bridge-E, etc. i7 and a GTX 660 running a 460w OEM PSU is asking for trouble.

Its a Dell XPS 8500 with an i5 processor. The idenifying number is FXN1RW1.
Is this it?

If so, then the GTX 660 should work OK since the CPU uses only 69w of power. Just don't overclock the GPU or anything.
what matters is if the PSU actually has the required PCI-E connectors.
if it doesnt then its probably not good enough
^ What CJ said.

And generally, the way OEMs do things (like Dell) is you do not generally get more-robust/decent PSU with the system, if that system (at the time of build purchase) did not include a dedicated GPU already that warranted the need for the OEM to then included a higher-end PSU to support the extra power needs. Most OEM systems that included a GPU below say NVIDIA x50; they generally only include what is need with the CPU+GPU in-mind; which for below any NVIDIA x50 GPUs; a 250-300 watts PSU is enough. So that is usually what you would be getting in such systems.

Just open the Dell side panel, there is a seperate sticker on the smaller Power Supply unit's box; see what model is on that.

Note the power supply in the upper-left of the picture; the sticker looks like this:

Notice where it says "Model No" or "Dell Model"

The specs mention a 460w PSU, but it's always good to double-check first. Though generally I would still recommend a PSU upgrade.
