If you are going ultra wide,r ather than duel/tri screen monitor setup, a few things you should know:

Some love it, others not so much. The best ideal for applications side-by-side working. Some games scale nicely, others do not (so you get black edges).

I don't see why you would get black bars/edges; as if you do play a game that happens to not like the 21:9 res option; you could just stretch another res to fit the full screen

21:9 ratio has really convinced me that ultra wide screens are going to be the future!

Not sure how anything has convinced you that it is the "future". It's been here for a bit and still games keep coming out that don't support it.

Most of the time you end up having black bars or stretching a 16:9 image... Gross.

21:9 is great for productivity, but not-so-great for gaming. IMO, multi 16:9 monitors would be better than a single 21:9 monitor for productivity... Though multiple 21:9 monitors would be even better.

Azza is spot on with the whole optimal viewing distance. I'd just like to add that higher resolution also results in more detail, since you have more pixels to form the image.

I'm not sure if you thought about curved monitors but.. my experience with curved monitors has been... Not great. While they seem cool at first, playing games that were designed with a flat image seem "odd" on a curved screen.

When I mean future, I mean wide adoption. Obviously it's already here but not everyone has one. I'm doing more research to see if it's worth owning one. But the immersive output im seeing, looks like it can really up your general gaming experience.

I find it doubtful. Too many games that just don't support the ratio natively. Stretching looks atrocious.

Even some games that support the ratio natively will end up with a FOV that is blown way out of proportion.
