But not by much it seems, doesnt really matter seeing as the cpu is the least important thing when coming to gaming (yes i know it super important but an i5 2500 is still relevant but a graphics card released at the same year aint worth ♥♥♥♥, a good cpu lasts much longer than a GPU)

Yeh but he didnt really land on a conclusion. It does seem that the i5 gives a slight advantage over the i7 except in watchdogs

These chips come in on different platforms, will you be buying hardware second hand? I'd suggest paying bit more and sticking with new 6000 series chips.

Sure, a 2500 is still an acceptable CPU, but that doesn't mean you should definitely spend your money on older, more inefficient hardware. BTW the 2500 does not have PCI-E 3.0 (not that it matters too much with single GPU).

As for the comparison between those two chips, the 3770 has hyper-threading while the 4690K has more performance for each of its cores (hence the newer make).

Also, you did not mention anything about overclocking. The 3770 is incapable of multiplier overclocking as it's a locked SKU, whereas you can overclock the 4690K. Out of those two however, the 4690K might make more sense since it's also based on a newer platform..

You may also consider upgrading to an i5-6600k since it's the current architecture and several generations ahead of the 2500k. It will be quite a bit faster, though you'll need DDR4 RAM for it.

I have the 4690k bought it brand new some monthd ago. I eas just wondering how the i5 was performing comapared to the i7 seeing as the i7 is on alot of recommended specs for most tripple a titles wich are new. :)

The i5-4690k is a fine CPU overall and should not bottleneck in the latest games. You can overclock it for CPU-intensive games.

either is top tier for gaming

if its a new build, go with 6600k and z170 board with ddr4 for about the same price

else its still a very good build

What difference does it make? They are both old tech. Both are virtually same performance.
Buying a new system? Then buy Skylake i5 or i7 series & DDR4

There are videos by digitalfoundry on youtube that show various cpu's in action and the issues to consider for max performance.

These 2 cpu's are neck and neck and a little bit slower than a fast Skylake. Memory, choice of video card (driver efficiency) and the smoothness of i7 over i5 are all covered.

This one starts with i5-2500 vs i5-6500 and leads on to the 3770K. The following ones cover i7-3xxx vs i5-4xxx and Skylake.
