how to remove xbox360 drivers?
hey guys im having a frustrating problem with my new xbox 360 wireless reciever. you see, i had one which was working fine then it broke so i had to buy a new reciever(reciever only). however new reciever is not working with my controller. a driver cd came with the reciever but i cant install it because i keep getting a message saying i '''cant install this because a better version is already installed on this computer?''' wth? i removed those old drivers (i think i have) but still cant install the driver cd. pleas halp. ps:controller is also xbox360 wireless.

uninstall all software, related to xbox360, then make visible hidden devices
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff553955%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
and remove it from devmgmt.msc

alright i did those and removed the driver from the device manager but, there are two setup files in the driver cd, one is setup.exe other is setupstb.exe. i tried running them both. setup.exe does not work because it says that the program has compatibility issues with this pc. other setup does not start because there is still already a better version in the pc?

add/remove programs

or start -> computer management -> device manager -> select the 360 controller and uninstall

and unplug after the drivers are removed

if you have a receiver that just sayx x360 or similar not microsoft
throw it away and get a genuine ms 360 receiver

it is a genuine ms reciever but problem is i cannot install the driver from the cd. it appears that there is a later version of the driver already installed but there is not. i checked device manager nothing there.

you have _fake_ receiver - it have another ID on old OSes you can unpack driver and edit ini but on W8 and newer it's not work try this:

DL original W7 x64 friver from M$ site (on 8.1, 10 skip this step - driver already embedded), start install, when Win say that @cant find driver, go to device manager, click on Unknown device, Update drivers... _search on this PC_ choose from list already installed, Common Controller (Microsoft) for Windows classes, Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows, ignore warning about incompatibility, OK
then sync gamepad and receiver

dont install the driver from the cd
get the driver from ms

https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
7-64 will work on 8-64 and 10-64

its the same driver for wired and wireless

if its a faked receiver it will not work the same and uses custom drivers from the mfg

worked. thank you man. still, i think it needs to be added that instead of common controller, it appeared as xbox peripherals in my pc. and from there i picked xbox 360 wireless reciever for windows.
