Overclocking fx 8350
I'm using amd overdrive to overclock my processor and am getting this error at 4.2ghz: Calculation Test > An error occurs in memory allocation
What does this mean and how do I fix it? I was able to go through one sucessful run and my socket temp was 63 and my core was 50 with my voltage at 1.3125.
Specs:
Fx 8360
M5A99X EVO R2.0
CX 600
G.Skill Sniper 4x4 @1600mhz

dont use software to overclock

dont expect a huge oc with the cheaper board

What would you consider a huge overclock? Im only looking for 4.2 ~ 4.4ghz.
And at what would be considered a good board because Ive heard of people hitting 4.6 wih this board in the past?

on bd/pd, 10-15%

but its not the cpu clock thats the bottleneck, its its poor design and chipset that hold it back

boot to bios, bring up the cpu multi, keep the ht and ram at stock speeds

test and repeat

prim95 blend for 15min to find out the max temps
and watch with cpuz to make sure its not throttling during the test

Max for socket is 70c and core is 62c correct? And Ive heard that you shouldn't use prime95 with AMD. "Some people stay from prime on the AMD FX processors because it seems to push further than needed. I can run intelburntest or OCCT and they both overload the CPU's to 100% on all cores and get temps 10c less than with prime."

socket temp (sensor on the board) normally is hotter than core or pkg temp
62-72c is the max for am3/am3+ cpus

prime blend works everything as hard as it can
ibt and occs are good also, but just make usre its not throttling

when the cpu throttles, it goes much lower than stock speeds to help cool itself

can throttle due to cpu temp, or vrm temp on the board

the board has 4+2, about 15-20w/phase max = 160w (power delivery for the cpu on the mobo)
thats why 8+2 boards can do much better overclocking

You sure about that? I just checked and i think its 6+2 phase power.

* oops 4+2 on m5a97 r2
edit, post fixed

Should you raise the CPU Ratio or the Bus Frequency for the overclock?
_I_ 20 sierpnia 2016 o 4:48
keep the fsb at 200, ht multi at 10 - 13 (2000-2600) whatever is stock
just raise the cpu multi

I'm not seeing a cpu multiplier. This is what I see (Check link). The only way I see you can boost your CPU speed is through the CPU Ratio and Bus Frequency. http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/lightbox/post/19056621/id/1247350

Too much heat with that chip when OC'd. Better off keeping it as is, which isn't even bad.

Or go Intel and then OC through the BIOS for real gains, and less electricity :)

My issue is some games like Forza Apex are only using 2 cores and its bottlenecking my system.
_I_ 20 sierpnia 2016 o 6:02
cpu ratio is the cpu multi
bring it up 1 at a time and test
see what max core/pkg temps are and make sure its stable

if its stable and cool (under 60c), bring up the cpu multi by 1 or .5
if its unstable and cool, bring up hte core voltage by .05v
stable and hot, lower core voltage by .05v
unstable and hot, stop and go back to last stable and keep it at that

*stable = no throttling or crashing

for games that only need 2 cores, think about upgrading to an i3 or i5

Alright 1st thing 1st, what are you using for a CPU cooler ? Next is you really cant trust Prime95 with AMD 100%, it's been known even at stock speeds to cause error, freezes ect, which can result in you not knowing what the heck is going on..

on amd boards with crappy vrm config or msi boards prime95 or any load can cause problems
asus boards are good about that as long as you have the correct drivers installed so windows knows how to handle the cpu when its throttling
