Condenser microphone with focusrite sound card not working on steam
I recently bought a focusrite 2i2 and a neweer condenser microphone and they work fine on discord, my stream, skype, ect.. But whenever I test it in the steam settings it does not recognize it. Now i have searched the web extensively to fix this issue but to no avail. I have disabled all devices i am not using and all of that junk. If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

What doesn't recognize it? Steam Client will just use whatever your OS is using by default; that is all Steam has ever done. There is no configuring Steam to use something. That is done at the OS playback/recording settings.

I don't mean it doesn't recognize it, it obviously recognizes it. All i am saying is that there is no audio when i test my microphone on steam and when i try to use it in any steam games

Just talk to someone via Steam Voice as a real test. U can friend me and do it if u like.

I just tested it with a friend on a steam call and there is no audio coming out of my microphone

Then u have an issue in your OS settings, simple as this.

Playback for MIC should be Muted
Recording for MIC should be UN-Muted

And that MIC needs to be the Default Recording Device, then restart Steam Client.

If the Sound Card is somehow NOT Windows OS friendly, then it won't work.

Most PRO users use Linux or Mac, cause PRO sound cards sux in WinOS.

Idk about that. I am very familiar with all of my settings in my OS and all of them are fine. Steam works with my other microphones

For streamers; just use Realtek HD Audio; nothing else is needed except on the outside, like Capture Card from 2nd PC, Pro Mic and Mixer.

Then IDK, apparently it's your sound card & winOS issue here.

Some Mics require external power or battery too.

My mic does require enough volts for the phantom power but my sound card supports the amount of power just fine. do you have any idea what could be wrong with my OS??

What all do u have for all the external equipment? Model #s

I just had a streamer friend try a new condensor Mic w/ Roland VT-3 and neither one of us could figure out my the Mic would not work... I hate audio equipment with passion. Video for me is SO much easier.

From what all I see, yea Focusrite 2i2 should be plug and play through any sound card. Make sure it's plugged into the correct input on the sound card.

I hate audio equipmet as well. I am using a focusrite 2i2 gen 2 and a neweer NW-700 professional studio broadcasting condenser mic

and it is plugged into the phantom power plug and all my friends in discord can hear me just fine which makes no sense as to why they cant hear me in steam

I FIXED IT OMG

Have you tried testing the mic with anything else? If it needs phantom power, then it won't work.

You also run into issues with XLR to 1/4th jack adapters... You'll want to avoid adapters at all cost. Adapters can typically cause many, many unnecessary headaches.

Sound cards do not supply enough power, nor the right kind of power, for phantom power.

What you need is a preamp.

Phantom power is 48v DC, supplied over 3 pin XLR.

I just looked up the Focusrite 2i2 and it is NOT a sound card.

It is an external USB audio interface. Huge difference.

It should work, as it has two channel XLR with a preamp up to phantom power specs.

You probably have a bad XLR port. Or maybe only one port has a preamp?

You should figure out if it is normal operation, if not, then get a replacement.
