A warning when buying from https://www.scan.co.uk/

My brother bought himself a new pc from Scan a few months ago, while installing the components the socket for the CPU was damaged. So he sent it in for repair, a process which can potentially take up to 4 weeks.

He had not heard back from them after 4 weeks so he tried to contact them and get updated on the situation of the repair, no update until several weeks later after weekly harassment to try and find out what’s going on with the repair.

A month later (2 if counting the first 4 weeks) they get back in contact to say that it was not repairable….and they then ask if he would like the CPU sent back, which he did as the CPU was fine and had no need for a broken unrepairable motherboard, the CPU was sent along with the motherboard as they agreed to install it for him.

After another week a box arrives, containing the broken motherboard and no CPU! And so the struggle continues for him still…

Completely useless customer service….

And to add from my own experience if you ever need to send something back to them or get a replacement because there was something wrong with the item it tends to take stupidly long, compared to say Amazon which is almost instant.

Razer customer support is rather bad too, to keep it short I got sent a faulty product, a ticketed was created, received no help, they closed the ticket after 1 month (Without helping) and then finally after more harassment I finally got my replacement mouse.

Here is the review that my brother created:

"Purchased packaged that included ASUS motherboard, CPU, DR4 RAM and Cooler.
During Installation, did not work, sent to scan, scan pointed out I broke it, accepted my mistake and understand, would have bought a new one.

But then, scan offered to repair motherboard for a small charge, thought ok fine, sounds good. They sent it to Manufacturer (with CPU), waited 2 weeks, contacted them, said takes minimum of 4 weeks to complete. Ok, waited 3 more weeks, still being looked into. contacted them weekly to chase them saying it is being worked on / being sent.

After 2 months they finally said it is going to be sent. Next day received email that it is not repairable??!!! OK i WOULD accepted that fact if it was done WITHIN 2 WEEKS! If it was repaired I may be a bit irritated but acceptable as well.

Waiting for 2 months just to be told it's no go? Waste of my time that I lack and stress that I already have. Dont care if it is all because it is ASUS, if it is their fault then it is them AND Scan for lack of communication and proper action. With that time I could have bought a new one and already built.

Ask them to at least send the CPU back, not too fused about the motherboard since that is broken after the time wasted.

Got a big box, contained the motherboard.... ONLY the motherboard. No CPU inside, or installed into it, or hidden in the box or motherboard or motherboard box, which is most likely still working (i hope).

I would have accepted that I screwed up the motherboard, and would have bought a new one.
I would be happy if they managed to repair it within 6 weeks
I would be understanding if they came back after 2 weeks saying that it is not repairable.

But waiting 2 months only to be told that it is not repairable, and the CPU is not returned with the motherboard?

Not buying Asus products anymore, not buying from Scan anymore. I am happy with their monitor, and scan in the past has been ok for delivering. But it seems when things go wrong they are THE WORST I have ever seen, at least Razer resolves the problem after a month and a half.

First time I ever felt that I needed to spend of what little spare time I have just to write this up, but for what I have just gone through is unbelievable. And I am a person that is patient, passive and understanding, but congratulation to Scan for being the first company to *^&% me off this much."

It looks pretty positive and been around 20 years, you would think they would be better.

We have Consumer Guarantees Act of 1993 in New Zealand, which would help protect us from faulty products or bad services. However, I don't know your laws there in the UK. There should be some kind of fairness for consumers however, read the ToS (Terms of Service).
I have had bad experience when buying from these guys.

One example:

I purchased a laptop which came with a defect on day 1.

They repaired it once, but the defect occured again.

They repaired it a second time.

The third time the same issue came up in the same year, they refused to repair it and said it was water damaged.

Do not risk it with these guys.I am not the only one with complaints.

They have a reputation management team that censors negative reviews.

They do not honour their warranty in my experience.
Should be called Scam dot co dot UK

Never had an issue. Returned a HDD enclosure I purchased last year because I got <10 gbps when it was supposed to be USB 3.1 gen 2.

They said it was fine when they tested it be refunded anyway. Had a 43" Display early last year. It kept flickering, top right showed blurry text. Returned it for a refund as they didn't have any in stock to replace it with. Took me 3 months to find anywhere else in UK that got stock.

Got a NAS from. Had a couple of issues setting it up and they talked me through them without needing to return it.

I usually buy my computer products from them or Overclockers and never had a single issue from either of them.

Sure some have a bad experience but that should outweigh the good service.
Yes Volderran , i had a big issue with them never been back and never will.
but i do not get what you say quote " My brother bought himself a new pc from Scan a few months ago, while installing the components the socket for the CPU was damaged. So he sent it in for repair, a process which can potentially take up to 4 weeks.Unquote "
Why would your brother buy a new PC then start installing components ? was this a self build .or I missing some thing here.

Always had great service with them over the past 15 odd years.

Honestly, this seems like it was out of their hands, your 'brother' (why is it always family or friend?) buggered it up, so it had to be sent to Asus for a warranty claim.

They wouldn't if sent the cpu off to Asus with it so was likely a simple mistake.

You seem to be blaming scan for your mistake and Asus having a slow turn around mainly.

Then laptop guy damages their own laptop and wonders why it's not covered? There's plenty of evidence of water damage and again, it would of been sent off for a warranty claim not fixed in house 99% of the time.

Sucks you guys had bad experience, but, the vast majority don't, that abd the issues seem to be user error or slow warranty process overall.
Wait, so your brother damaged the CPU socket, but it's SCAN's fault?

I've been using them for years. They even manage RMA's on products that failed after four years. They're possibly one of the most trusted sites in the country and have never sent me a repackaged product like some other sites have done (Amazon and Ebuyer).
They turned me over real big with a GPU that their engineer could not get running either , no hint of a refund , when i was there the tatic is playing the waiting game and the ques can be bad. last week i went to buy a Mobo bundle deal off amazon but one component came from them , so that was that did not order and never will.
