Coil Whine(or something similar) in Case Fan.

Fan is: Cooler Master XtraFlo 120mm.
Anyone know what's the best way to deal with that? Cleaning, lubrication, etc.?
I can't RMA the fan becasue it's out of warranty period now.

I checked if something is hitting against the blades and making that annoying "zzzzz" sound, but no wires or anything near the fan.

This series of case-fans is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to durability.
Already RMA'ed 2 fans last year within a month of purchase becasue both got locked up and wouldn't spin.
In all possibility I'm thinking this one is bust as well.

Case fans are usually cheap enough to not be a hassle over when they start dying as it sounds like this one is so probably just time to replace it if cleaning it doesn't fix it.

You could lift the sticker off the fan, remove the little plastic or rubber bit then place a single drop of sewing machine oil or some other light oil in the lubrication well.

But It would be easier to replace the fan.

Not vegetable oil? I don't think I have sewing machine oil or anything like that.

What are some better alternatives?
Something that won't go bust in a year.

no not vegetable oil bearing grease/oil such as white lithium or equiv. not wd-40
best thing is to stop buying sleeve bearing fans go with ball bearing or double ball or various mag lev fans or closed hydra bearing

Okay thanks, might check up with a friend if he has those type of oils.
Could you suggest a few other fans that are durable? I can fit a 140mm fan in the same spot as this one.

Any fan should be fine really. Cooler Master make some decent fans, but if you've been having problems with them I can see that you may want to switch brands. Corsairs and Noctua are good but pricey.

Just buy any silent 140mm fan. Bigger fan = lower rpm required = longer life because it's not working as hard.
