XBox One Chatpad for Windows 10 woes (blinking orange light)
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the XBox One Chatpad on Windows 10? I received mine today. I plugged it in to my (regular XB1) controller (can't remember if it was cabled or wireless, I alternate), and, hey presto, it worked! I went into Big Picture, went to Search and was able to type away. Fantastic.

Until I opened up the XBox Accessories app. The app proceeded to install an update (firmware version 2.3.2381.0) and since then, the Chatpad has ceased all functionality. The orange circle on one of the bottom keys is just constantly blinking.

Now I've looked around online regarding this. This is what I've dug up:

1) Flashing orange light = Chatpad wants the controller to be updated before use. This is obviously (a) problematic because I'm not being offered any further updates, and (b) irritating because it worked BEFORE the update.

2) Chatpad is happier when connected via USB. I use my controllers both wired and wirelessly, but obviously I'm focusing on getting it working whilst wired as that seems to be the way forwards.

3) The Accessories app is a turd.

4) The Anniversary Update has cause people trouble with their controllers, but that doesn't appear to be a problem for me - they work fine, it's just the Chatpad that is bust.

And that's kinda it. I've rebooted my machine, I've unplugged/reconnected the Chatpad, unplugged/reconnected the controller, done all of those aforementioned things in myriad different sequences, tried using the controller and Chatpad on another Windows 10 machine, all to no avail.

Is anyone able to offer any insight? It would be much appreciated!

Got the same exact problem. Pity I don't have access to a xbox one unit :(
Bad-Motha, Microsoft's suggestion is to do what OP said he did already (update firmware via xbox accessories), so anyone experiencing the same issue as OP (e.g. me) will all have tried what Msoft suggested in your link.

ChatPad and Headset was never really meant for PC / Windows
So you have to think about that too.
Even if they added support later, it may have issues still.
We already see many have had issues with 360/One Controller Drivers in Win8/10
Where they had to ensure to revert manually to older Driver to get it working properly.

It seems as though they haven't tested many use cases. It seems obvious quite few people would try this without owning a XB1. (Well, with that said, some people at least seem to be able to get this working without doing what OP had to do. Would be good to know what's the difference between them and us!).
Did anyone have any success in getting the xbox one chatpad working with windows 10 without access to an xbox console? I have been on live chat with microsoft support for a couple of hours now and they cannot get it working either.

Seems ridiculous for microsoft to plaster "windows 10" all over the box and forget to add "xbox not included" !!

There is absolutely no indication on the packaging that an xbox console is required to first update the controller and chatpad before it can be used on PC.
This is still an issue for me as well. After a lot of research, I have concluded that the chatpad needs to receive an update as well as the controller. It will however only do this when plugged into an xbox one, the xbox accessories app for windows 10 PCs will not do this! so if you use a windows 10 based PC rig to play games with your controller and do not have access to an xbox one, even after this much time, Microsoft has not bothered to update the xbox accessories app for their supposed, supported, windows 10 gaming setup, so you can update the chatpad also.
With xbox anywhere and their game offerings being available on the PC, it is rather odd to have current support for the controller and have done absolutely nothing to update the app so that it can support the controllers accessories being updated the way the xbox one does. Thank You.
Just an update: today I successfully updated my chat pad using Xbox Accessories Windows 10 App. It seems that Microsoft already access and solve this issue. I am using Windows 10 creator update BTW.
That's great news! Thanks for the update.
Hi there,

im facing almost the same problems like u guys. The question is - it is possible to use the chatpad + controller without wires in Win10?
With Micro-USB cable everything works great, but without cable the chatpad is not working and not even blinking, but my controller works well (bluetooth version with 3,5mm in).
Ive downloaded this controller app and updated the firmware, but still no changes.
Any suggestions?

Update: solved. The chatpad wont work via Bluetooth-connection. You'll need to buy the official microsoft wireless adapter. Now everything works perfekt.
