1440p on 4k tv
There is a possibiliy that might buy a 4k tv next month because my current one died. Persoanly i dont use tv for many years now since i watch all tv series and movies on PC and of course i read the news on pc just like i am playing games on itl However my mother still watch tv so we will have to buy a new one. Since 4k tvs are cheaper than 4k monitors it will not cost us a lot to buy it. Now the issue about my pc is that because it is old it can run only a few games at 4k max settings. It is 2500k gtx 970 12 gb ram. Most games can not run max settings 4k but there are a few ones like Metal Gear 5 Mad Max Street fighter 5 .... who can run 4k DSR 30 fps max settings so they will run the same on a true 4k tv/monitor. Now if we make the decision to buy a 4k TV should i move it there and use it on 4k for games it can run and evrything else on 1440p until my next upgrade or should i keep it on my current monitor(DELLP2416D 24'' 1440P 60 HZ IPS) until i upgrade it?

buy a 4k monitor not a tv

tv will have all kinds of effects that delay the displayed image by 50-100+ms

or keep your 1440p monitor

but a gtx 970 is only really good upto 1080p at higher settings anyway

1440p will look like crap on a TV due to very lossy scaling. 1080p will actually look better since most (if not all) 4k TVs can display 1080p as good as if it were their native resolution.

i have a 2014 vizio P65. it is capable of 1080p 120hz or 4k 60hz. it use to be able to do 1440p 60hz, but after an update that setting went away. for 1080p 120hz i have to use CRU or the custom resolution tool in the nvidia control panel.

Since i think its very uncommon to find a 4k tv that accepts 1440p/60hz, i would say find one that accepts 1080p 120hz since its more common. it will still look good until you have enough power for 4k.

google "rtings pc monitor" , click the first link and its a good read, even has a chart to show which tv's have which features.

another reason the vizio p is good is because it has really low response times in gaming mode (for tv standards). in the 10's ms.

i believe the 2015/2016 vizio M series is pretty much the same as my P series. just doesnt have full array local dimming. but has the same specs otherwise.

the one thing that the vizio dont have is 4:4:4 chroma at 4k, many people will say that it means you can view text or details will look blurry. that is NOT true, at least for the vizio tv's. i use my tv as my only monitor. web browsing, word, movies, gaming. it all looks perfect.

side note. other then that. some games have sub/super sampling. so you can set it to 4k 60hz, but then in game have it actually render at 50% (1440p ish). so the tv will accept and display properly but you are still running 1440p.

or you can set the display to 1080p and super sample 100% to 1440p. you will now get 120hz as well as less jaggies.
