Tried restarting the computer? Never had an issue with media player.
I tried a different cd and it works ok. Why would a particular cd do that? It's clean with no scratches.

Try it in a different cd player if you have one. I've only ever had cds skip or outright not work. Never heard of them being distorted and garbled like you're saying, only thing I've heard do that was cassette tapes.

Do you mean it has copy protection or something?

Try setting WMP Settings to Output via DIGITAL for your Optical Drive; then restart WMP and try that CD again.

I just downloaded a rar of the album instead. I own the album on cd so the FBI won't come for me i hope.
