SSD health drop faster than HDD
i got myself a laptop that has SSD and HHD, but why did the ssd drop faster than the hdd? i barely write and read data on my SSD, does temp can affect the health of my ssd? because most of the time, my SSD is sitting on 50 while idle

hdd will last 15+ years with no damage if taken care of (not dropped or damaged)

You won't know when ya HDD health drops until it does. SSD you just get to know how many more re-writes it has left, which for the average user is around 15+ years, most lasting longer then conventional hard drives under similar load.

Don`t buy SSDs that have lower then 5 years warranty.

i m planning to buy 2TB ssd next year (or 1TB , depending on the prices) but i have a lot of experience with microSD cards . The most reliable for me are of Samsung and Kingston . The worst experience i got is with Sandisk . Their microSD card broke in 1 week !

Unlike HDD though, 50*C is no where near "hot" for an SSD.

It could just be that your Laptop brand maker installed a low quality SSD to maximize profit per machine.

Maybe buy your own SSD to replace the original one. Clone ssd to ssd and then install new one in its place and boot from new ssd. Take the old ssd and wipe it 100% clean of all partitions and data, then reformat as a single MBR partition + EXT4 format type. Then turn into an external drive via SATA or M2 usb caddy and use it like a usb flash drive.

Look at Sabrent Rocket 4 series or Samsung 980 EVO if it's M2 NVME or look at Samsung 870 EVO if it's a SATA drive.

You can use usb caddy to hookup new drive externally and perform the drive to drive clone before physically swapping the ssds.

What is the brand of the SSD? Laptops are generally running hotter because of the smaller, more confined space. But you should check the specifications on the web-page of the brand.

If the higher-than-expected temp bothers you, open Task Manager and click somewhere in the Disk column to bring up what could using the SSD and making it run hotter. If it's idle, then check the vents for any blockage from dust or whatever.

Generally, SSD should last longer than HDD b/c it has no moving parts. But there are variables, obviously--like using a very cheap brand with a poor rating.

5 years warranty mean nothing because it is a market game.

So warranty =/= hardware lifespan. I learned it in my company that is WCM.

Even cheap SSDs should last well beyond 5 years even with heavy everyday usage.

Make sure these get changed in Windows OS.

> Disable Disk Defrag scheduling (do this manually "maybe" once per month; if the drive is an SSD it won't defrag files, it will perform an SSD TRIM Optimization instead)

> Lower the System Restore size % (so the total is less then 20GB)

> Disable Indexing per-Drive; Windows Search; and Superfetching

> Disable the PageFile by setting to None. Then apply and restart Windows. Then change this to have the same amount set for Min & Max; such as 8, 16 or 32 GB; but enter the value in MB. So for example, 8x1024=8192

thanks man, brb for the update

Also if the Laptop is using an NVME SSD type; check the Laptop maker's Support site for your exact model of laptop and then check the Software Download section and see if they offer an NVME Driver. This can help overall performance of those drives.
