Well 1080p to 1440p is a great improvement I agree.
In my case it was 2560x1080 to 3440x1440 - with same pixel densities.
It is a bit like going from using hard drives to SSDs for your OS & games. Very Very noticable and a much better experience.
So from 1440p to 4k. Yes an improvement but not mind blowing.
It is a bit like when going from sata SSDs to NVME.
.
It`s not only about math, it`s also about human vision and perception, We are not robots and there are certain limits to what we perceive.
4k for is still a gimmick not worth the performance hit imo, unless you stay far away from the pc, take a 4k.
with my 1440 being at ultra and high fps vrs 4k and all settings turn down to try to hold
60fps visually id say 1440 on ultra looked better than 4k on med settings with all enhancements
pretty much in the off position.and gameplay was night and day 4k @60 fps is lame as
hell.so a no brainer for me.maybe if you have a 4090 it will hold 120fps plus
but from what ive seen so far im waiting for a 5090
Thanks again for the helpful info!
I played 1440p for a while but only because of HDMI 2.0 limitations, so 1440p was the only way for me to get 120hz for a while. Don't miss 1440p either.
4k is where it's at. You will need a powerful GPU if you want high refresh rates. And you will need to check out the screen size vs viewing distance chart to make sure you sit close enough to see the extra detail.
Mine is 65" with a recommended viewing distance of 3 to 5 feet. Beyond 5 feet even a person with 20/20 vision would not see all the details. Go smaller with the screen and you must sit even closer. Go too small and then it's basically pointless. You would have to sit 1.5 feet away from a 27" 4k monitor.
And no I don't have to turn my head to see the sides of my screen, so you can take that nonsense argument and stick it. It doesn't cause any fatigue at all, I can game for 12+ hours at a time just fine and I am by far more competitive on this screen than any screen I've ever had. And I've had 100hz CRTs with zero input lag. Input lag and motion smoothness mean jack crap if the screen is small and resolution poor. Blowing up the screen size and resolution was the best upgrade ever, and add 120hz freesync and you have no reason not to except budget.
4k120hz is king now. Until HDMI specs play catch-up again, then 8k120hz will be king. Anything below that is not better, just a better value to you personally because of your budget.
