GPU is HDMI but Monitor is VGA
Will any adapters work? I use a VGA cable and connecting that to my monitor. Would an adapter work to fit with my new GPU?

I have bought one similar to this one[shopping.rediff.com] that works great. Only issue that I could find would be with dhcp. Out of that, should work like any other VGA output.

And you use a VGA cable? I heard it doesn't work with an hdmi cord.

Do you mean a HDMI extension? The connection between the adaptor and my monitor was with an standard VGA cable (1.2 mts long, the ones that usually comes along with your monitor).

Both my monitor and my gpu are currently vga. But I got a new gpu that's hdmi only. If I plugged a converter into my gpu and used my vga normally would it work

Ok, my adaptor worked connected via HDMI built-in cord. + VGA cable to the monitor (I mean, adaptor has his own fixed HDMI cord.). Does your new card have an DVI-D[nvidia.custhelp.com] output? If so, take in count that there is no need for this adaptor.

It's hdmi only. My monitor is vga and Dvi only. I don't believe I have a Dvi cord though. But I can probably get one somehow
If you have an DVI monitor, then consider this option: HDMI-DVI adapter[www.walmart.com]

Any of both options will solve your problem

Regards

P.S: HDMI-DVI adapter is cheaper and don't make any digital to analog signal transformation. By far this is your best option (IMHO)

I'll do that. But should I use a DVI cord and plug adapter in my GPU or stick the adapter in my monitor and do it with an HDMI cord
The GPUs have DVI; that is how you use a VGA connection.
This is how pretty much all GPUs have been for 10-15 years.
Most of which have never actually supplied a physical VGA D-Sub connection on the GPU.
This is why GPUs come with a DVI-to-VGA adapter included.

However this does not work on the newer GTX 1000 series GPU, as they simply do not support Analog any longer.

The adapter in the link needs a hdmi cable (the adapter goes connected to the monitor). There are others HDMI to DVI adapters that includes the cord, look for one of those if you don't have an hdmi cord.

Thank you very much! I am now going to enjoy my new GTX 1060 and some fabulous Nuka world tonight! :steamhappy:
you need to convert digital -> analog to run a vga monitor from dvi-d, dp or hdmi

the hdmi -> vga adapter cables are for specific dvd players that use a vga connector for the digital signal
I'm doing a hdmi GPU to adapter/DVI. Have you experienced anything strange using an adapter combo? just curious.
waht dvi flavor does the monitor have?

dvi-d = digital only
dvi-a = analog only
dvi-i = both analog and digital support

if the monitor is dvi-d or div-i, a dvi-d to hdmi cable can work

I use that adapter currently for my 37' LCD. Mine came in a single pack though.
