Windows 10: High RAM usage.
So, I'm sitting here trying to figure out what the deal is with all the high RAM usage ?

The programs being used should not be eating up that much RAM.

Did the SSD software set something wrong (Samsung Magician) ? . Is this 'normal' for Windows 10 to eat up the RAM at random ?

Samsung Magician has an option to use RAM Disk with SSD more than likely turned it on. If your using Windows 10 please ignore anything about stuffing with superfetch or anything tweak related to help a SSD it causes more problems than fixes and makes SSD slower not faster regardless of what is printed here and what article it came from.

With an SSD theres no need for superfetch, and ive never encountered any issues with it turned off. EVERYONE recommends turning it off with an SSD, not just One site.

It doesn't make your SSD faster or slower; what it does is prefetch data all the time on the SSD (a feature meant for slower HDDs) which just increases writes for no reason, impacting the SSD life-span.

Furthermore, there is never a need to manually mess with SuperFetch or PreFetch; unless you are using an SSD with Vista or Win7; which then you should disable SuperFetch in Services. This already occurs by default when you install 8, 8.1, or 10 to an SSD.

Magician is not even really needed; all you need from that is to check for updated firmware and install the Samsung RAPID Driver. Then you can get rid of Magician from OS startup. None of those so called tweaks need to be done; again not unless you have an older OS.

Things like Hibernation and System Restore; are up to you to mess with, and require manual attention. Apps can't really mess with those features or settings. If you wish to save space, disable Hibernation fully using the CMD command for that; and with System Restore, always limit this space, or it will grow to ridiculous amounts of usage.

You should only ever need maybe 10-15GB for System Restore. And that is quite a lot. Especially since over time, old restore points are useless to have around, and should be removed from the system to free up space.

I had massive RAM usage with my win 10 and the problem was the killer network suite that came with my gigabyte G1 board.
I also used the samsung software for my SSD's and have no problems

Again, the OP does not have any Killer NIC; just your average Realtek GBE NIC; which are fine. I use those alot (since it's one of the most common that come on Motherboards) and these don't have driver memory leak.

It's obviously something else in the system; either App, Driver, or some sort of infection.

Sorry I never read the thread.
A clean install never hurts

Yea I would go about this in a few steps.
First get rid of anything in your startup, nothing should be in startup, period. Again for testing...

Second, once you have Anniversary Edition Update; all Drivers should be uninstalled and redone fresh with ones actually made for the new Win10 build. Which is essentially Win10.1 now.

It seems to be my internal NIC. If I bridge it (waiting till tomorrow when I can order a router), with the PCI NIC it'll end up sucking up the RAM sometime.

It's been over 24 hours and so far without the bridge (for the living room machine to have access) it hasn't ate up the RAM randomly.

has the Internal NICs drivers been updated?

In the case of Killer NIC issues sucking up RAM, the Compressed Memory process was sucking it all up due to the driver bug.

is it the same process using up all the RAM or a different one?

All I can get for what is sucking up the RAM is "Non-Pool Data" from RamDisk. No program is sucking it up.

if its a program then get rid of it? you dont have enough RAM to utilize a RAMDisk anyway

Er Ram MAP rather.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your games are 32 bit, they won't even use more than 4GB of RAM. Which may cause your system to swap to disk even though you've got 8GB RAM. The upcoming new version of Skyrim and the various Hyperdimension Neptunia games are examples of 64 bit games. I'm fairly certain that Fallout 4 is also 64 bit. Tons of games that might even not be old were built as 32 bit code because "everything supports it." Including potato PCs with 32bit CPUs and Intel onboard video...

I am also experiencing high RAM usage (upto 7GB) while there is nothing running except for the normal stuff and Steam.

I also have the G1 motherboard with the Killer network, but I never had any high RAM usage before, it only started to happen since the last month. I can't find a single proccess or service that is using up that RAM, yet I mysteriously have 5GB extra RAM usage.

Most of that is not actually used; but has just built up a momentary Cache.

Cache will change size as needed as you use your system; it's not as if an App is sucking all that RAM.
