External GPU on a Desktop

Alright so I have an inspiron 3646, which rocks 2 j1800's and some sweet sweet integrated graphics. I can't upgrade it physically, because of the ultra small form factor and lack of a PCI-E slot or GPU slot of any kind. However, I do have a gtx 660 that I'm not using. My question is, could I pick up an external GPU holder, connect it to my desktop, and plug in the GPU? I haven't really seen anyone in the situation online, and there's only like 3 threads about it that I've seen, and most of the responses are useless. Also, I can't build/buy anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

From what I searched up online the inspiron 3646 has a wireless internet adapter which will be using a mini pci express slot like a laptop. However this would require you to buy a power supply (20 or so bucks) and the adapter device which is 40 - 50 dollars itself.

It would technically be possible but I'd save my money for a better desktop personally.

Could you link the power supply and adapter? I really think for 70$ thia could be worth it.

I'm a minor with no income with around 65$ so this is my best bet for a long while.

Also so you are aware that unless you have a wired eternet connection for internet you'll lose internet connectivty removing the wifi card for the adapter.

if its an m-atx or itx build it should have a pci-e x16 slot
then you can transplant it into a larger case

anything short of a thunderbolt 2 connection to the gpu will limits its bandwidth too much

Nazerlash, I own a USB Internet adapter. Would I be able to use that and still use the external gpu

Yes that'll still work for internet. I'll say again I'd recommend trying to save for a better computer as this is a fair bit of money and effort to make this work and I've never personally tried using these things but if you stil want to try it, good luck.

Honestly by the time I'd had money for a build that would last me it'd be late 2017, around new years, so there's no point really. Thanks for the help. If I do get it to work, I'll post back here to let people know.
