What screen size should i consider.
I currently own a Dell E197FP 19-inch display which works fine but I recently bought Fallout 4 and I have to run it in windowed mode as it messes with the UI if I dont. doesnt do it with my other games. Any suggestions of displays that I could trade in for a 10 year old 1280x1024 display that can still run most games like fallout 4 in windowed mode but can run at optimal graphics.

Any 1080p display in the 20"-27" range should work well.
Do you have a dedicated GPU? What do you intend to run 1080p, 1440p, 4k what?

Firstly what is your graphics card (or planning to get)? Then match that with the resolution / monitor size you want, keeping it retina. This is where the human eye can no longer count between pixels.

It's a calculation of: Screen resolution <> Monitor size <> Viewing distance

At the standard viewing distance of 3 feet, optimal retina display would be:

1080p resolution - 19 to 24 inch monitor (max 27 inches)
1440p resolution - 27 to 32 inch monitor (max 36 inches)
UltraHD 4K resolution - at least 32 inches

thanks. I think this might help. I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 TI. and the monitor I currently use is a 10 year old 1280x1024 pixel res. I might get somthing like a 24 inch monitor. But I am just trying to keep options open in case this monitor finaly burns out. probably wont happen any time soon though.

So, I would suggest...

- 24 inch
- 1080p FullHD resolution (1920x1080)
- Refresh rate of 60Hz or higher
- Response rate of 5ms or lower
- Max input lag time: 30ms
- LED Backlit or Low Blue Backlit
- IPS Panel (Richer, brighter, and more viewing angle compared to TN, but can be a bit more expensive - TN on the other hand can be faster response)
- G-SYNC (optional: Costs more, but will allow for syncing of the Nviida graphics card to monitor output)

Did you have a budget or just want the best for hardcore gaming?

I knid of want a screen that costs about the same as my old one, which is on amozon 40 dollars.
BenQ XL are fantastic...

$40 will barely get you a 1080p monitor (and probably those 2nd hand, crappy LED monitors which is a waste of money). Your budget won't breach 1440X900,but I saw a Dell Ultrasharp 1909wb for $42

I used a Dell Ultrasharp back then and those things are tight

You might wish to save up more...

Consider that you probably use the PC on a daily basis for hours on end. Your monitor, keyboard, and mouse are quite easily overlooked but should last you at least 5-7 years. Getting a good quality monitor, not only acts better and lasts longer (unless you just put up with it), but also protects your eye sight, etc.

You will notice a huge difference going up to FullHD. After that you might even want to consider upgrading the graphics card, but that can be done later down the track.
