Monitor going black and displaying "No Signal" when playing games!
About 2 weeks ago I put together my first PC. I had an issue where as soon as I started playing any games, after about 5 minutes the screen would go black and display "No Signal".
I took it into the local PC shop, who took 2 weeks to 'fix' the issue. I just got it back, and I was playing Fallout 4 for about 40 minutes before the problem occurred again.
**
There's quite a lot I've already tried, so first off here are the specs;
- i5-6600k (NOT OC'D)
- GTX 970 Strix
- msi Z170a-G43 PLUS
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 1TB HDD
- 600W PSU
- 4 System Fans
- Zalman CPU Cooler
**
Here's what has already been attempted to fix it;
+ Larger PSU
+ New Graphics Card
+ New Motherboard
+ Fans set to 100%
+ Monitor has been used with another PC
+ Updating to Windows 10 from Windows 7
+ Computer has been reassembled (ie, Connections are all ok)
+ Temperatures of CPU while playing are pretty consistent (around 30 degrees C)
+ Idle temp of GPU is around 40 degrees C, not sure what it is when gaming
Pretty much everything that I have found online has been tried, and I'm completely lost at what to do now. I'm getting really stressed with this because my 30 day return thing runs out in a couple of weeks, but I'll be away from this Sunday and unable to return them.
I also just paid the local computer shop £90 for jack ♥♥♥♥, so I'm more than a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that it's STILL not working.
**
Problem in detail:
Whenever I try to play a game, it will run for anything from 5 minutes to 45 minutes before the screen suddenly goes black, and "No Signal" is displayed in the center of the screen. There is no audio.
Sometimes after the screen goes off the computer will automatically restart itself. Other times it will not.
The only way to get the display back on is by turning off the computer and restarting it.
**
This is my final plea for help before I say "♥♥♥♥ it" and return all the parts to Amazon.
Thanks ;3;

Could be bad RAM. Try another RAM stick/RAM slot. You got an intermittent failure somewhere
in your system which is obviously very hard to locate without running extensive tests like stressing your memory with Memtest, your graphics card with Kombustor and your CPU with XTU. As you already did a more than reasonable amount of troubleshooting I would RMA the parts and and call it a day or start over with new ones.

what psu brand/model?

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

check temps while gaming
use hwmonitor, it logs min/max temps
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
alt+tab takes long enough for the cpu/gpu to drop 20+c

Hey, I was wondering if your fix for your 970 was still working for you? I know this is an old thread but I have been having the same issue and I have a very similar set up as you.

I wonder if that is the problem I am having.

I was running a gtx 1050 over an onboard card, did bump the power supply at one time. But it just shut down and no signal.

I switched monitors, cables and even video cards. Only thing I didn't switch, was the power supply. They do lose juice over time...

Yup! I got a better PSU and it's been running fine ever since. Never had that issue again ^^
