It's NForce Chipset, DDR2, and AM2 only... get rid of it is the only real upgrade option.
Bad 💀 Motha Jun 20, 2016 @ 12:01pm
The site says no.

OEM boards are clear on support; and they are lacking and rarely update beyond what the original specs say it supports.

Those CPUs are not even around anymore.

AM3+ is basically all there is from then general family and that requires an AM3+ motherboard

The whole Violet thing is just what the OEM like HP use to slap a model# or family generation to them...

But yea it's not worth upgrading or really messing with. If you can put to other usage and it's working, do that perhaps. Maybe clean install the OS and Drivers and use it for something else.

Games from around 2010 and newer; you're gonna want to build something better.

Agree, there's nothing worth putting in it. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01635734

You can always use it for a web surfer / netfilix and so on media box.

Good for you, you hit instead of missed.

The down side is you're limited by the dual core now vs 4 core.

Not much of an upgrade... A sidegrade at best.

Best bet is if it is an "Nforce" chipest board, replace with a newer AMD Chipset if you strapped for cash, but want to upgrade that system. Win8 and 10 generally do not get along with Nforce Chipsets and neither do SSDs.

Really, ^ 9150e clocks in at 1.8ghz and is a PH 1, x2 250 is at 3ghz and newer architecture, quite an upgrade imho but not a quad.

Is there a particular problem with the NF sata boards ^? I ask because I have to stick an ssd on my Dads NF6150-430 mobo.

Of course, it would be faster for single-threaded programs, but slower for those that can use 3 cores or more.

BTW, It's a Geforce 9100 Chipset, it runs Wins 10 fine before with my HDD and maybe SSD and I might use a Phenom II x4 955 95W for max performance incl single core performance and multi core performance
Yep, that would be a great upgrade. A REAL one.

In case you're looking yo find one ^ x4 955 95w that is, x4 945 3ghz is the next drop on HP's list.

Horus the P1 was slowww to start with the architecture was crud so to speak and 4 core P1 at 1.8 is just hopeless regardless.

Except the fact that I'm using a AM2+ Socket, and Violet only (not Violet 3) hopefully I could use this Phenom II X4 955 95W CPU for major improvements.
Oh yes it is compatible with AM2+
upcoast Nov 20, 2016 @ 2:55pm
Why don't you post a link to what mobo you've got?

AM2 is ddr2 only, AM2+ is ddr2, X4 955 is an AM3 cpu but it carries a dual IMC ddr2/ddr3. that's why the x2 250 also works on some am2 boards.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01635734 here is my crappy mobo, suprisingly fits to 16 GB RAM DDR2, and not that loud at all besides only CPU fan and varieties of CPU/GPU.

The x4 955 is a gamble then, it's your decision.

I wouldn't gamble with it and just search around for a used mobo and ram combo be it amd or intel then get a correct cpu.

I just picked up an older am3+ 95w mobo with 2x2GB ddr3 for $40 cdn I just wanted it for the sata 3 / usb3 to pop an old x3 450 into it but it will take FX 95w cpus up to FX8370e.

I think you should start over and not waste anymore $$ on that am2 tower and set yourself up with a used i5 3470 3.2ghz target (which is your best bet) or even an FX6300/FX8xxx used pc target, you can get good deals used if you look around and are not too much in a rush.

Add some ddr3 ram and you've got something worth while ^.

You would have to search and find a BIOS for that motherboard that supports the CPU, or find an equivalent model in another brand, made exactly the same (you can search for that, you might get lucky) and get a bios for that. Maybe.
