Jitterbug SmartPhone questions
A senior citizen Friend of my dad who I usually handle all the family's PC repairs/setups/upgrade; anyways he has this smart phone model. He's trying to hookup via USB and transfer Photos for backup to his Win10 PC I made for him.

Long story short, he's not getting any Drive Letter coming up, as though Win10 is not seeing the device at all. I need the Drivers/Software and Google is not helping at all. I keeping find links for Driver downloader apps; which are just spyware crap. Can't seem to find the official drivers/software elsewhere.

This is the Phone itself if you need a reference:

You will be best served asking on a tech / mobile developer forum - from what i can tell jitterbug use android OS?

I use this forum for issues - finding drivers on my android devices http://forum.xda-developers.com/

check the storage option in the settings and make sure that MTP connection is selected if that option is available on the phone, that is the type of driver if any your OS will want to use " MTP driver " if i am correct.

EDIT: here is the official microsoft MTP driver https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=19153

As per description - Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit, The new Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) enables you to manage content on any portable device with storage.

Yes Jitterbug "Smart" is a cheap series of Touch/Smart Phones made by Samsung and have an older light-weight Android OS on them.

IDK what that even is, and I see no reason to need it.

For me personally I have many phones; Samsung galaxy S4 and S7 and an iPhone 6S for my work only. All them u just plug in via USB Data cable (not charge only) and then u are asked on the phone how u want the connected system to see the device; Camera, Music Player, Storage Device... and that dictates how the OS such as Win10 sees it. Camera for example would only allow access to the DCIM folder that holds the Phones pictures taken with its Camera. General Storage allows full access of the Phones flash memory folder structure.

I for one, through these phones and using OS such as Win7, 8.1, 10 have never needed any 3rd party software what so ever. Same goes for if I want to use the 4G Cell services on my phone to power an internet connection for my Desktop/Laptop; no issues. It's very easy overall with these phones I've tried.

I have about 4 phones - the only phone or pc that needs this driver is my wifes PC, every other PC it works fine no drivers needed.

The driver worked for me and it comes from MS site so it is verified and safe.

MTP is just a driver / protocol the OS will use so the two devices can communicate, try it out either way if you want the phone to communicate via usb otherwise you will be stuck using a wireless or blue tooth connection to xfer files

Can I ask what Phone your Wife uses that it appears to have needed this MTP Driver installed in order for it to communicate/share files?

That seems rather odd. Unless it is made for cheaper phones and sharing devices that have no standalone drivers of their own.

Samsung Galaxy series for example; Windows Updates provides the Driver for that.

Interesting. Is this some sorta 'universal driver' for Android devices to be connected to Windows? I have a new Android device that 10 won't recognize as well so I'm reduced to using Google Drive and Dropbox for file transfer at the moment. Although I see this driver is all the way back from 2007. Not even sure if it supports Android 6.0 devices.

Even on Previous OS; I have had to get Driver from Windows Updates for them to fully function properly; sometimes depends on the Phone I think; nothing to do with Android. As all u are doing is looking at the device as a Flash Drive

Are you sure that phone is even capable of FTP/MTP?
As its one of those simple phones i wouldnt think it would have it, smartphone or not.

When its plugged into the PC, is there any notification or anything?

If its capable of FTP, it should be listed within the Developer settings, or some where within the settings itself.

With normal phones the drivers/software is installed from the Phone itself as soon as you plug the phone into the PC. dunno..

If it has a MicroSD slot, which some forms of the Smart versions do, could just get a MicroSD adapter

She has a samsung Note 4S, her Desktop is windows 7 home premium x64

All other phones such as our old S2 and my S4 and S5 are fine no drivers needed

It should still support 6.0 as it still has the underlying API that older android OS have for compatibility with USB, i came across it when visiting the xda devs forums a year back and it has worked on all Windows versions and for all phones that have had this issue.

Just do a restart after installing it and make sure MTP is enabled on your phone.

Ok thanx I will try it then; as I won't be able to get over to the person's house to look at the machine first-hand for some time; so I'll link him this info and hopefully after installing that; he can transfer files from phone to his Win10 PC;

Thanks again.

my five cents: I came across a very cheap android-devices, usb port don't work other than charging, for data transfer used memory card
to enable data transmission functions required root and developer's SDK

btw google jitterbug - a lot of defective party products, in which certain functions are not working
hope that the developer's drivers will be enough for fix

I use google photos app on my phone. It has the option to keep original resolution. Then just log in to google on a PC.
