Different IP on steam link and PC
Connected to the same WiFi network but both devices have a different IP address. Sorry if it's a dumb question but how can I get them to match and thus work together

Every network device has it's own IP.
You connect by:
> Both Link and Gaming PC on same network.
> Both logged into the same Steam Account.

Login to the games account on your main gaming PC you will stream from (the gaming PC will have to run the games)

Then ensure Steam Client is up to date/working.

Power on Steam Link and login to this same account the gaming pc is logged into, while both on same local network.

Now on Steam Link; there won't be a Play option; instead a Stream option.

You can also do this with 2-PCs (In-HomeStreaming) the 2nd PC you log into; will have both a Install/Play option as well as a Stream option.

I don't mean to be rude... but do you not understand basics of a network?
Each device is supposed to have it's own IP# Address.

For example:
Modem/Router (aka Gateway)
192.168.0.1 < Network Home Base
192.168.0.2 < Network Printer
192.168.0.3 < Gaming PC
192.168.0.4 < Steam Link
etc... all these devices are on the same network, so technically, they can all talk to each other.

I know that but its being a little weird here. Im connected to the same network on both devices, I look in network properties and the 192.168 ip is there, but when i open google and look at my ip its some 172.26 stuff. All i know is that i can't steam

in web browser, one of those "Find my IP" sites; will show your Internet IP; that is a single IP# for your ISP Connection. Not your internal home network.

For all the home network IP's login to the Modem or Router to see all that.
Your PCs, network devices such as Printer, Phone, Tablet, Xbox/PS, Steam Link; they will show up as an IP# all their own.

No.... and steam support didn't care either. over 20 messages and they kept asking me the same stuff as if they never read the message before. And after all that they said "we give up, we cant recreate the problem. beter use a wired connection cause its better." WELL NO ♥♥♥♥ but guess what, it has a wireless for a reason FOR THOSE WHO CANT DO WIRED. I bought it for one feature that it cant even do anymore.

steam link and the pc are differrent devices on the network and will have different ip addresses

you need to allow the steam link access on the pc
steam -> settings -> in home streaming tab
