Mixing Ram - Successful so far
So I bought some new ram (Crucial Ballistix Sport 2 x 8gb ddr3-1600[www.microcenter.com]). The ram I had previously in my computer was a microcenter brand 2 x 4gb ddr3-1333.

Note:
Mobo - Asus P8Z77-V LE
CPU - i5 3570k overclocked to 4.3ghz

I know that mixing speeds makes it all run at the lower speed, but even then I figured 24gb of 1333mhz ram was better than 16gb of 1600mhz. So, I went ahead and put it all on my mobo, with the 1333 ram in the first and third spot, and the 1600 ram in the 2nd and 4th spot. In the bios, I enabled XMP (which I guess automatically overclocked the 1333 ram to 1600??), which is the only ram-related item that I manually changed.

Ive had it all in there for about 40 minutes, and my computer has yet to crash, or act up.
Some image related information also. Top is having ran prime95 for like 5ish minutes (I am impatient), and bottom is idle a few minutes after the test. [i.imgur.com] I dont know what the timings or latency on the 1333 ram is, nor did I bother to look into that before I plugged it all in.

The main reason I hear people say not to mix ram is that it will crash, or wont boot. But under the assumption that it is stable, are there any other drawbacks I should take note of? Assuming to doesnt crash, even if the sticks arent using their full potential, the 24gb vs 16gb thing outweighs that, right?

Also, im on like 3 hours of sleep, so lemme know if I left out any other important information. Also, I apologize if this question has been asked to death here. Tried searching the first couple pages of search results, but none of the answers seemed to satisfy.

faster ram will run at lower speeds

as will ram with lower timings can run at higher timings

and lower voltage ram can run at a higher voltage

if you had a 1333 cl9 1.5v kit you can add a 1600 cl8 1.5v kit and it will run at the lower speed

Run memtest overnight, if that reports no problems, you're good to go.

So what Im getting from that, is as long as the computer is stable, all is fine? I dont have to worry about my apartment burning down or anything?

But also, is more gb of the lower speed better than less gb of a higher speed? My brief research seems to indicate taht the speeds are marginally important.

Ill give that a go then.

pull out the 1333 kit and just use the 1600 cl9 kit
then enable the xmp profile in bios for 1600

if you dont need more than 16g you will get a larger advantage with the higher speed vs 24g of ram
