My Dell E2016HV Monitor not connection to my new desktop.
I just got my new desktop[www.amazon.com] and new monitor[www.amazon.com] today, and I set up the desktop perfectly fine however the monitor is having an issue connecting to the computer. Here's the error message that pops up when I turn on the monitor:
There is no signal coming from your computer. Press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse to wake up.

Moving the mouse/pressing buttons on the keyboard don't work, so tomorrow I'm going to head to best buy to buy a DVI to VGA cable adapter. I just want to know before I do that - is there any way to fix it without buying an adapter?

Thanks
-Josh

The PC should have already come with DVI-to-VGA adapter; otherwise how are you even connecting it via VGA?

Make sure you connect any Display directly to the NVIDIA GPU and not the rear of the Motherboard.

The monitor is crap; avoid VGA altogether. Use Digital only.
You can get upwards of 23-24 inch Monitors for under $150

Get a Monitor that supports DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort; avoid VGA.

GPUs come with the adapter; so maybe ask the PC brand, as they should have supplied the adapter with the system.

A few things.

First, Here is a picture of where the monitor is currently plugged into on my motheboard.[gyazo.com] I need to get it plugged into the DVI space above that, but it won't fit in there.

Second, I'd rather not return the monitor b/c I would then need to wait another 5-8 days to get my new monitor to start using my PC at all.

Third, how do I plug the monitor directly into the NVIDIA GPU?

Last - the PC/Monitor didn't come with an adapter. I checked over and over again, didn't come with one unfortunately. No idea why.

You're using the wrong connections/GPU
You need to connect to the GPU in the Slot, not the Motherboard.

You need DVI-to-VGA Adapter; again this normally comes with GPU or whole system; so if not; look in the accessories it came with, or demand it from the maker. Simple as that really.

And again if you avoid VGA Displays, you wouldn't need any adapters. As you want Digital Connection anyways. VGA is just a pain in the butt. That is better for older systems or as an addon display, if must use it. It should be avoided.

It doesn't matter much that it didn't come with it, rather than demanding it and having it come in a few days I might as well buy it for 7 bucks tomorrow.

So just to clarify - I need the adapter? Or I can connect it to the GPU without it?

The monitor says VGA only; so no you need DVI-to-VGA adapter so you can connect to the GPU > http://11986-presscdn-0-77.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/monitor-connections.jpg

I would suggest just return the Monitor and get a better one; one that does not only have VGA.

Okay thank you, but I have one last question.

So when I get the DVI-VGA adapter, I shouldn't connect it to the DVI port in the rear of the motherboard but in the slot in the GPU? What's the difference?

The rear of the Motherboard in the onboard GPU only.

The slot / card is your dedicated GPU

If Im not mistaken in the pic you show under the speaker connectors there is a DVI connector. I think that is where you should be connecting the monitor that is the GTX 950 graphics card

The picture is just a general example...

You don't want any connected to Motherboard/Onboard GPU; you want them connected to the Dedicated Graphics Card; otherwise you'd just be running off the Onboard GPU and won't have access to the more powerful dedicated one.
