Windows 10 is the best OS they've released so far. Only conspiracy theorists hate Win 10 and mainly because of the so-called "spyware".
They only make incremental improvements, but when you have a monopoly you dont need to make a giant change.
Not just us mad conspiracy types. Ask any Sys admin (especially the ones who work in education as they tend to have large windows networks) and they will tell you exactly the same thing that it is:
Overly invasive whilst being more restrictive than any previous MS OS.
As for Linux, I am currently gaming on Linux exclusively, sure we might not get the latest and greatest crap offering from Activision, EA or ubisoft. With valves support though (+gog) we do have around 3000 games and counting on Linux.
Which Linux do you use?
See that's the other issue with linux. WIth so many varieties people have a hard time figuring out which distro is right for them.
Sure, Linux is still around and kicking 25 or so years since its release? And it sucks? Sorry troll if it sucked it wouldn't be around any more and something better would have taken its place. Computers don't last long if they aren't good, same goes with OS, hardware, software, etc. If it "sucks" it will drop off fast. Linux sure hasn't dropped off in its 25 years of use, in fact people consider it a major success even with it's weakness's.
Windows 8.1 for rest of my PC til it ded.
I have heard a lot about linex, but have never used it. I really hope linex becomes more robust and is used more for gaming. We PC people need an alternative from Microsoft and Apple. I don't really like either of them.
The main thing that has kept linux out of Gaming is more or less the same thing that has kept the mac out. Developers over time became very dependent on DirectX which in fairness solved a major problem in game development at the time. Now with the Open source rivals of DirectX gaining more support even from the hardware manufacturers...it's now becoming more pragmatic for developers to develop with the open source like OGL, since it makes it easier to 'port the game to other systems like Mac and Linux.
Almost exactly my sentiments. Every day I get a wee bit closer to dumping it entirely and going w/a Linux distro. I dual-booted XP and Ubuntu for several years and was quite happy with that. Very soon I think I'm going to reach the point that I'm done with Windows entirely. Good riddance.
Elite dangerous is the only reason there is a windows partition on my computer. Even then I have only booted windows 3 times in six weeks.
Been having fun with borderlands 2, bioshock and tomb raider, as I kind of didn't get the chance to play them first time around.
Also it looks like wayland and vulkan are both coming along nicely so it won't be too long before we see games actually performing as good as/if not better on Linux than on Windows.
My only real issue at this point is that some of the other software I use has no Linux version, and I'm loathe to try to emulate because of the nature of the software and the other issues that would arise which I just don't feel like trying to deal with.
One other issue holding me back, though, is that my video card, an R9 390, isn't currently performing so well on Linux from what I've read recently. I'm keeping an eye on it, though, and hoping that AMD's upcoming driver changes are going to help the situation.
It was a gaming beast with an E8400 and 9800GTX+
I think windows OS have steered more towards touch/mobile computing and I do regret upgrading from win7
Step 1. Use classic shell to get windows looking just like xp / win 7 as you probably did if you used win 8 also.
Step 2. Disable the data mining crap win 10 uses in about 5 minutes unlike you can with mobile devices or chrome.
Step 3. Enjoy a os that's faster then win 7 or 8.
