Windows 10 is the best one. The first 3 where crash happy. Vista was better than XP but just needed a bit more power to run.
Windows 7 was ok but I still needed to fiddle with drivers a lot.
Windows 8.1 and 10 are far better because I don't need to fiddle with drivers for small stuff. The look of Windows 10 is just fine and doesn't feel cluttered at all.
I rarely crash this OS and the times I do the games tend to be the problem.
So honestly I've yet to see much valid criticism of Windows 10 and why to hate it other than "It's cool to hate Microsoft".
XP is overrated as well.
I would also agree that 10 is the best one, I love these sleek flat color interfaces.
Microsoft has said there will be no new Windows and they will just keep improving 10.
Problem is that even when you turn all of the telemetry garbage off MS try and turn it back on again through some really shady "windows updates".
Oh and there is the fantastic new feature of MS remotely disabling and uninstalling software without even notifying the user first during updates.
Shame really as Windows 10 was rather nice.
Example?
Never happened to me. My privacy settings are unchanged since installation.
Sensationalist clickbait news story circulating on social media a while ago. It originated with an update to the Microsoft Services Agreement document that states they check for updates and for make configuration changes that block pirated software.
This document only applies to certain apps (Xbox, Skype, Office etc,) it does not apply to Windows and no such "pirate software block" exists.
Lists some the KB updates that interfere with telemetry and privacy
And I wasn't referring to the click bait "oh Microsoft is going to uninstall your dodgy pirated games" garbage.
Google 'speccy win 10 update' for one simple example where a perfectly functional and useful piece of software was disabled and Uninstalled by an update without prior notice to the end user, hence the 'without even notifying the user first' part in my original post.
Like I said, I like win 10, but there are just a bit too many little dodgy things going on in the background for my tastes.
With W10 however they're basically trying to turn Windows into a freaking appstore and there by cut a slice of the software you buy through it. I honestly do not trust W10 and the increasingly shady lengths MS is employing to get you to upgrade for free is becoming out right worrying.
As in they are doing their best to remove your ability to say no to the upgrade.
However, has anyone created a realistic alternative? What choice do you really have at this point?
Linux is a perfectly Viable alternative, outside of gaming. You just don't hear about it because it's free, ergo no one makes a profit from spending the time and money to promote it. Funning thing is. Valve and Steam have done a lot to boost Linux in the gaming sphere, and you can actually see it happening. Very few games actually straight up require DX 11 and above. Support it yes, but require it to function, hardly. Developers are gradually moving towards the open source alternatives, if only because it makes cross platform developement significantly easier and more cost effective.
That's basicallyone reason MS is so desperate to get W10 on so many PCs. From what I have heard, they're working out a deal wherein only apps sold through their appstore can make use of certain windows performance features, so basically you either sell through their appstore or your software potentially runs like ♥♥♥♥♥.
Of course for that to have any teeth, they need to rush the roll out.
See... perfect example. People generally see the world in binaries. So we have the belif in Europope and US that the choices are only Windows and Mac.
Again, because Mac has spent millions promotiong itself as the hipster platform and MS has spent even more building up the illusion of being the only choice. This shows the power of advertising. Ity doesn't matter if you have a better mouse trap if no one knows you have it..
