Stop saying you have an RX 580, because you don't.
It's an RX 480 4GB that you flashed a 580 8GB BIOS onto, and you think it's given you 10GB of VRAM. And because it's reference, you're more than likely cooking the VRMs on it.

I wouldn't take anything this guy says as truth. Sure he could mean well, but he hasn't got much understanding of real world performance.
He thought he was running 4k just fine on that athlon and a GT 1030......

This update is pretty vital too as it will contain fixes for vulnerabilities concerning the x86-64 architecture in general.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with him commenting, or talking to people, but generally most of what he says is just plain wrong, and if I can 'help' the spread of misinformation he's doing, I will. Just a quick comment telling people what it's actually like doesn't hurt anyone, however, sometime I do go a bit far on the >Discrediting him part.

In short, I just don't want anyone to make a mistake because of him.

just dont get paid to fix peoples computers, i fix my whole families desktops and laptops, yes you are right i do not own a company like Carry fixing security problems or anything im just a home tech that can fix my families pc free of charge and there isnt a problem i cant fix, i can consider myself a tech

YES EVEN MY task manager shows proof of a proper flash of the 480 to 580 and its reading as a 580 and performs as one, not a game i cannot run on high settings :)

the block for externals was lifted via a "readiness" update that went live today. it apparently also affected pcs with more than 1 internal storage drive. my machine has 3 total and all went through fine.

Yes we later realized this also.
Make sure you run check for updates before installing 1903. Even if you do not get 1903 through WU you should get all the Tues updates and that would prep the machine for 1903 and such errors won't occur due to the previous drives issue and such.

You can flash a Vega 64 BIOS onto a Vega 56, doesn't mean it performs like one. (Sure, it will perform better, but no where near the levels of the actual Vega 64.)

And, because you have the reference 480, and you've flashed a 580 BIOS onto it, you're cooking your GPUs VRMs, literally.
Generally, you'll get just as much performance from overclocking it to match the 580.
Flashing the BIOS wasn't a good idea.
