Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Paste
I am currently using Arctic MX4 thermal paste for my CPU, and although it seems alright I want to get something even better. I had my eye on Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut although it is expensive in comparison to any other brands. The 11.1g tube goes for $44CA after tax, and Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut 3.9g goes for $22CA after tax. I understand you would mainly only use this for CPU that will be overclocked, but I wanted to hear other's opinion.

I use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on all my builds, even their liquid metal when i delidded my old 8086k, i know it is a bit more expensive, but for me quality counts more, it may or may not be any better then any other thermal compound, but it's then name you pay for..

If you can afford it, just go for it, that's my opinion anyhow..

It might be a degree or 2 better, only you can decide if its worth it, that's for the paste, I get the paste and LM mixed up, as for LM, above an heatspreader it offers limited gains, but will remove the etching from it, so, be aware come time to sell.

I have their LM, which I used on the shunts to power mod my 1080ti's but I just used good ol mx4 on everything else, I need to redo my loop in a few weeks time, maybe I'll buy some and compare results, but mx4 has been fine for everything so far.

You honestly wouldnt see that much gain, a couple of degrees at most.
But by all means, I reccomend it. (Haven't used it before, but I don't think I've seen anyone talk ♥♥♥♥ on it.)

The reason it wouldn't do much is because MX4 is a high end paste anyway. And there isn't much deviation in pastes anyway.

But if you're looking for a good way of dropping heat on a CPU you could lap the IHS as it's terrible at heat transfer ( honestly, have you seen them after being lapped? Even without Delidding, it causes a very noticeable decrease in temps.)
And all you would really need is some sand paper, glass side panel, some tape, water, and Isopropyl alcohol......and elbow greese.

(I'm tempted to try lapping an IHS, anyone with first hand experience, got any advice/notes about it?)

I don't see the point. MX4 itself is pretty good already, going for Kryonaut might give you 1 degree improvement, hardly worth the price.
If you insist on trying better paste, and price is a concern. I suggest you try those industrial stuff, for example Shin-Etsu X-23-7783D/X-23-7921-5. These are pretty much the best paste for CPU out there and they are usually very cheap comparing to consumer brands.

Love the stuff, I Kryonaut everything accept the CPU which I usually apply Conductonaut (which is the Grizzly LM).

But unless you were going in for something else, or to do a repasted anyway, there isn't much of a point.

I have Kryonaut applied. I had MX4 before that and can assure you the temps are lower with kryonaut. It was really noticeable when clocking 4,9Ghz and 5Ghz. (- 5º ~) comparing to MX4 with same clock speeds.

For what usage is this?

If you already have the best cooler and maybe also if you already have delided then trying to add the best paste may be relevant.

But if you don't have a good cooler already then the $44 would likely had made more of an effect if you had bought a that much more expensive cooler. Then again 4 gram cover multiple applications and so on. And the new Noctua NH-U12 whatever it's called with the new fans was kinda pretty close to the much larger ones in performance that it may be a nicer choice even if it's not "better" in cooling and noise but it weight less and safer for the motherboard, less weight in the case, not really much difference in height so not really worth mentioning as in "fits more cases" though sure that too to some extent.

I am running low on my Arctic MX4 thermal paste and have to buy more thermal paste anyways, and I can't easily delid an i9-9900K due to the way it is built. Also you make it sound like i'm using a cheap CPU cooler, I am using a Corsair 280mm AIO cooler which is very powerful.

I use kryonaut and it's actually sh*t. Pre applied thermal paste I've used yielded better thermals.
You very likely bought a fake knock-off, or applied it incorrectly.

Pre-applied thermal paste is spread evenly across the heatsinks contact, hard to go wrong with.
When you apply thermal paste yourself, you have room to not make proper contact across the whole heatsink contact / IHS, resulting in higher temps.
So conclusion, your inability caused your problem.

What CPU, and cooler are you using? Because 7c is quite a jump, for paste, unless you mean 7f (which would be a 4c change in temps.)

He's got an i9-9900k, it would be quite difficult to delid. Lmao.

But yeah, the smallest tube would more than do you.
I've got 3 rigs under regular usage, repasted them all near the start of the year, 3 of the CPUs, and 2 GPUs, and I still have half of a 4g tube left (of MX-4), and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up pasting one of the GPUs so had to clean it off, and re-apply.
So I don't really see a need to get the 11g tube unless you're constantly repasting, or benchmarking different hardware.
The 4-5g tube of Cryonaut will more than suffice.

I didn't knew what you were using. Just stating.

I have a friend who bought the modern Noctua NH-U12 for his i7 8700K but then have spent quite a bit of money on three Noctua case fans, some splitter/device to run them and on another thermal compound but in the end if he wanted better cooling he likely should had bought both a better cooler and something else than the Phantek P300 or whatever case he bought. The solutions he's taken to "fix" that (which unlikely was a problem to begin with) hasn't been the right and most effective ones.

No, thats quite about right, between 5º and 7ºC. I have a 7700k and a Corsair H100iV2.

* Fans and lots of noise!

That's about 3x the amount shown in most tests, which is why it seems a little, off.

Almost all of the tests I've seen have shown Kryonaut perform within a couple of degrees of MX-4, so yes, 7c is quite a jump.

Could've been his MX-4 pasted had gotten old and dried, or he applied it a little sloppy, so he mistakenly thinks he's got much better temps.

I posted 7°~ , because it was more or less a certain value. I should have emphasized the 5°. I understand it can be misleading. Although the higher value was seen on 1 or 2 cores. I should edit the first post.
