AMD's RT is basically 1 gen behind. Currently the 6900xt and 6950xt are both above RTX2080ti/RTX Titan class, and at or above 3070/70ti class in RT. And this is in Gaming Loads.
In benchmarks the 6900xt+ tend to sit a bit closer to the 3080 and often above the 3070ti.
I fully expect the next gen to be equal to or better than 3090ti for the 7900xtx.
Are they as fast at RT as NV? No. But is their RT unbearably slow? No. Their first time out of the gate in RT was across the board faster than NV's first, and I suspect similar from the V2 on RT. It will still be behind NV's V3, but it will likely be as fast as or faster than NV's current tech (RTX3k) for RT loading.
Meanwhile, in non-RT they are pretty darn potent, often equaling or besting their specific NV counters. And FSR2 is good enough to go toe to toe in many quality comparisons with DLSS, with each having their specific trade off's in quality for their frame boosts.
Very very very tiny minority of indie games. The only indie/aa game that i knw use ray tracing is ghostrunner
Trail Out
Earth Analog
Bright Memory Infinite
You can expect more of them in coming years though... Especially from the AA games...
Sapphire, Powercolor and XFX. Sapphire is like EVGA of AMD cards
I'm using AMD's reference 6800, which is probably the least OCable and has the worst cooling. Still have no issues, and I love the build quality of the card/looks so thats why I went with it.
I know of some who'd dissed AMD exclusive AIBs in favor of the big three, aka MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus. They say it's low quality and badly made compared to the big three. Ofc, I'd vehemently disagree with their rather....ill thought-out opinion.
AMD has made great strides with the design of their reference models with the RDNA2, the design of the shroud and cooler on the RX 7900 XT/XTX look good as well.
I had a Red Devil 5700xt and it was a really great card, build quality was awesome.
How are the drivers?
As for the card, the 6800 is awesome. Though if you can get one at a good price the XT is even more awesome. The base 6800 though is a wonderful card. At stock clocks they are perfect for 1440p gaming, with a good OC they can be stand in cards for 4K/60 even at decent enough settings. I am in the process of having to RMA mine sadly, so the GF is rocking our Vega 64 for the time being, but while it lasted it was a great thing. I am hopeful that the replacement is just as good.
If you plan to go for 4K or higher than 144hz 1440p I would suggest looking at the XT cards, either the 6800 or 6900. The 6900xt can often be found at as low as 699 (maybe even better with black friday and such). And its a card that is more in the relm of the 3090 in performance terms for anything nonRT, and more like a 3070/70ti in RT. Meanwhile, a well OC'd and tweaked 6800xt is often a match for stock clocked 6900xt cards. I went to the 6900xt from the 6800-non xt for my 4K and was pleased. That said I am def looking at the 7900 line with possible intentions to get one, they are exciting cards!
Yeah with the 6800 its like 1440p Ultra settings @ 90+fps in most my library, or 4k High settings @ 60+fps in most my library.
I had a 1440p 165hz 32" monitor...then gave that to my son and was on a 50" 4k TV for a bit...thought I should pick up another 1440p 165hz 32" monitor so I did...turned out it was a waste of money because I just wanted to go back to the 4k 50" as playing something like Cyberpunk 2077 4k high settings looks miles better than 1440p ultra.
For me anyways.
I'm skipping this next gen and going for a new build next year, but will stick with AMD.
