Upgrading from NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Hey guys.

So, it's probably about time I upgraded my video card and I'm wondering where I should go from here. I need something that supports DirectX 11 so I can play games like Watch_Dogs, among other things. I saw the GT 630 for relatively cheap but I'm unsure if that's better than my GTX 260 I'm currently running. I'm not too well versed in video cards so. :conwayshrug:

If anyone has some recommendations I'd love to hear them.

Graphics card hierarchy chart:

GTX 260 is actually lot more powerful card then GT 630.

Go for GTX 760 2Gb version, it takes about same amount of power then GTX 260 so your current PSU should be fine.

Nvidia 780 ti
or
AMD 290X

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll check into those.

You need good quality 600-650W PSU for GTX 780 Ti and 750W PSU for R9 290X.
And if you have only one 1080p monitor then both are complete overkill.

GTX 760 or AMD R9 270, 270X, 280 or 280X for around the same price or less depending on budget and what you can find.

On a very low budget the R7 260X is one to consider but I recommend not going lower than the GTX 760 cause the gap between that and the GTX 750 ti is huge. However if the primary use of the system is not gaming then the GTX 750 ti is a great card, very power efficient.

On a even lower budget you should consider saving more money.

Also I should ask, what is your CPU? Since that might be needing a upgrade as well or even instead. On a budget too low for even a R7 260X you should perhaps consider a AMD A10-7850K APU though it won't be much (or any) of a upgrade to your graphics card except in power consumption and newer technology. At least it would upgrade your CPU, RAM and Motherboard at the same time though.

You might also want to consider not upgrading at all and trying out a overclock first. This will cost you more in power but will increase your performance.

Seriously Rove? recommending AMD APU without graphics card that has worse performance then his current GTX 260 and on top of that is rubbish CPU for modern gaming...

Dude the GTX 260 is a old but good card. But I have no idea what his CPU is, it might be a a ancient dual or even singlecore from like 2006 built into the PC before he upgraded the GPU the first time. The GTX 260 is still a pretty good little card but it draws a lot of power. A lot more than a APU iGPU.

My CPU is an AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Thuban 6-Core. Just throwing that out there.

You guys are taking this too seriously.

Utage, just get an AMD 295X2 or an Nvidia Titan Z. You won't have to buy a card ever again.

oh ok that's still great then. No need for CPU upgrade. Getting a APU would be a bad idea.

Take my previous advice only about GPUs then. GTX 760 or higher on Nvidia side, R9 270 or higher on AMD side with R7 260X the only super-low budget gaming option and GTX 750 ti as the great office option but not recommended for a dedicated gaming rig.

Also like I said, try and overclock first unless you are concerned over power bills?

GTX 760 would be fine then. GTX 780/780 Ti or R9 290 and higher would be bottlenecked with this CPU and would be kinda pointless.
If you have one 1080p monitor then GTX 760 has no problems running majority of modern games on ultra settings.

Yeah, I'll probably go for the GTX 760 then. Thanks for the advice, again.

Ha! I would if I had $2000-$3000 to blow, but I don't. :conwayshrug:

Get a 280. Cheaper, same power.

Since it hasn't been said here, I'll just go ahead and say it: Never get a GT card for gaming. Those cards are not meant for gaming.
