Dude, explain to her you'd have to remove it ANYWAY to replace the dying motherboard.
A modest (cpu + ram + motherboard) upgrade is logically more sound than hunting down an OLD motherboard. Of course, those kind of changes would require a reformat of her PC … She might not like that.

However and you should explain her that, this socket is slowly dissappearing, therefore the few remaining motherboards are quite overpriced and give a inferior perfomance compored current tech standards.
