CPU fan is MUCH louder when the case fans are connected.
I recently got a new motherboard for my current setup and now the CPU fan sounds at least twice as loud as it did with my previous motherboard.

Previous Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-LE
Current Motherboard: GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD5

If anyone knows why the fan sounds louder after changing the motherboard your support would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

That's strange, your motherboard shouldn't be doing that. Try reinstalling your graphics card's drivers and see if that helps you.
Just a guess; but it's more likely that it is actually the CPU fan; not the GPU.
What CPU + HSF are you using? The stock AMD cpu cooling fan be get rather loud.

Check the temps and fan rpms in Windows.

And check your BIOS settings. What about the other fans? Are they running at normal speed?

You can also try to control the manually with SpeedFan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Im using an AMD X6 1055t with the stock cooler, I have checked temps and they seem to be ok.

Speedfan doesn't control my fans for some reason, my case is what is used to control the case fans, it has a 3 speed switch.

Given you've changed boards; check the BIOS for anything related to CPU fan. Like ASUS Q-FAN or "Fan Profile" setting.

U can't control the fans via SpeedFan if they are not plugged into the motherboard headers.

Remove the side panel, turn the machine on and stop the fan with your finger and make sure it is the GPU fan first, as suggested above its much more likely to be the CPU fan or case fan/fans.

I've had it in the past where my GPU fan span mega fast during boot up but as soon as Windows loads it stops, make sure the driver is correctly installed.
Yes narrow it down by unplugging or turning down other non-essential case fans; to see which one it is exactly.

Usually the GPU fan will crank to 100% on a cold boot or restart, but it should generally stay rather quiet unless the GPU is getter hot; like 60*C or higher.

Ok, I will check by playing a game with all the case fans disconnected to see what fan is causing the noise.
I'll post the results later.
Ok, so I ran Battlefield 4 for half an hour or so with the case fans disconnected and the fans seemed to remain relatively quiet for the duration of the game, so I decided to plug the case fans back in and almost instantly after, WOOOOOOOOSH!
I found the cause of the noise to be.....
The CPU fan!
wow.

You were right, Bad-Motha.
Why do you think the CPU fan is so much louder when the other case fans are connected? I can't think of a reason apart from that it is drawing extra power from the PSU or something.
Very strange...

check the connectors on the case fans
if they have a 6pin mobo connector and 4pin molex
use one or the other, not both

if its louder with the case fans, you could be hearing the case fans

AMD 80mm fan spins 4000+rpm 120mm case fans spin 1200-1800 on avg depending on make. The hsf ramps up with temp what was the temp during gaming, maybe use HWMonitor instead?

Ps, old mobo might of had cool n quiet enabled and new mobo might not but stock amd fans are loud non the less.

I know it's not the case fans that are making the noise because i used my finger to slow down the CPU fan and it went quiter.

Incase you're wondering, the case i'm using is the Corsair 500r and all the case fans are controlled by the fan controller built in to the case.
The fan controller is powered by one 6 pin molex plug from the PSU

It's not strange; the CPU heating up once u load up things like games; the fan is going to crank up to compensate. Ask anyone out there, AMD stock fans are crap. They do fine on tight budgets, but they are small and loud. The heatsink (if u have one with the copper-heat-pipes from an FX8) are not bad really, but the fan is small and thus it's loud above 3000rpm or so. Which is maxes out at around 4200rpm or so once the CPU starts reaching 55-60+ *C

Get a good heatsink+fan like Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or Hyper T4, u will have a heatsink that can do a very good job, and a 120mm fan that will be fairly quiet, but still cool better due to ability to move more air at lower rpms.

Now, why any previous motherboard did not do this same thing is beyond me. Unless perhaps u had the fan locked in to a lower speed in the BIOS via Fan Profile setting (i.e; Quiet, Normal, Ultra) etc... Which u simply do not want to do with an FX CPU due to the CPU will would most likely get too hot if the fan is not able to auto-ramp the RPMs as needed to compensate for heat.

Ok, I will just have to live with it then untill I get a better CPU cooler.
Thanks for the help Bad-Motha.
No problem; hit me up if u need any help down the road.
