CPU liquid cooler question
yeah i just bought a new cpu liquid cooler, and its just freaking great. it keeps my cpu temp. on 40-45 whilst gaming, and at least 9 when idle. But heres the thing, for some reason while my pc is idle the temp of the cpu is rapidlly jumping from 10 to 18 to 22 and it keeps changing all the time. i dont know if this is bad? is that too warm ? should i be worried

what are you using to monitor cpu temp?

sounds more like its monitoring cpu usage
Nexures 5 ago. 2014 às 12:21
core temp
_I_ 5 ago. 2014 às 12:23
for most board coretemp needs an offset value
try hwmonitor
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

i have that as well. so i should use hwmonitor instead of core temp? like from now on ?

use hwmonitor to get the correct temp, then you can adjust the offset value for coretemp

do not run them at the same time, as they will get strange values from the monitor circuit

just a question, how are you so sure hwmonitor is better than core temp ?

yeah i just used cpuid hwmonitor and its the same. it stays on 12, then jumps to 20,22 and falls back to 12 etc
_I_ 5 ago. 2014 às 12:49
hwmonitor logs min/max and can watch more than just the cpu/gpu
also drives/gpu/ram (if sensors are on the dimms)

could be a bad sensor
it it the cpu or tmpin0?

cpu. im looking at the cpu temperature. the "tmpin0" is on gpu
_I_ 5 ago. 2014 às 12:55
tmpin0 should be the cpu socket (sensor under the cpu)
tmpin1-2 should be the nb and sb, sensors under those

gpu temp should be its own line
if its giving erratic values, its most likely due to running multiple software at the same time for reading the temp sensors

hmm thats weird, coz im only running hwmonitor atm.

also im sorry i forgot to mention, but it only started doing it today. it was fine for the past few days since i got the cooler. when i got it, it was stable 9oC

this is weird.. coz im looking at the cpu>temperatures>package and its a stable 12oC ... i dunno wtf is going

Yeah, you're getting completely incorrect readings. 9 degrees Celsius is around 50 degrees Farenheit - which is an impossibly low temp.

check task manager and see if a coretemp is still running, it may have crashed, and still trying to monitor while the windows is not open
or reboot

yeah ill reboot, and turn on hwmonitor
Nexures 5 ago. 2014 às 13:11
it still jumps from 13, it stays on 13 for few seconds and it jumps to 18,23,20,13.
