Right now I mostly just play tf2 which runs fine even with the GTS250 other then occasional sound loops with freezing.
I think Ill try to find a cheap used GPU card under $100 and see what it does. I found a place near me that sells used computer parts so ill check it out and compare to ebay and hopefully find something worth getting tomorrow.
I would love a powerhouse computer (6 core, at least gtx 1060, 32 gb ram, big ssd) right now to do UE4 but don't want to commit to spending that much until I know I'm capable of and commited to making\teaming to make the game I want to do.
It will likely be awhile if ever that I will absolutely need a computer just for UE4 and by then I could probably get something far more powerful or the same thing cheaper. The logic of the game is the vast majority of the work I would assume and I can do that and make a crap graphics prototype version of the game's basic functionality with this before doing most of the world building.
It seems like for gaming my computer isnt totally worthless yet with a newer graphics card according to most replies. Now the question is do I buy something new\good or go as cheap as possible to play modern games? Every time I think about it I change my mind lol. Its not really anything someone can tell me though its just a decision I have to make (I overthink everything way to much haha).
If I could get a 750ti or something as good for $50 I think I would, otherwise I'm leaning toward either waiting for 1050 to come out or getting a 1060 and hoping its suitable for my next computer when I build it (at least a year probably unless this one breaks and I can't easily fix it).
You may or may not need to upgrade your psu for the GTX 1050/ti, but I'd definitely suggest upgrading the psu for anything higher.
As someone who owns a very similar setup, I would recommend bumping the ram if its within budget. I find 5-5-6gb ram usage in recent titles such as gta and doom and the games do stutter every now and then. This is on a relatively clean install of windows with few background apps running. Mafia may or may not be as demanding. You might see a benefit when working with UE4 as well, though again I can't speak for it, i've only messed with unity myself.
The rest of your computer is still good . The i7 930 is older, but still very capable. If you are interested in overclocking, there are plenty of useful guides out there. Thats said even at stock its still a good cpu.
