GPU idle hot or okay?

I have the Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 gaming, and i noticed that i'm idling at around 43c. My cable management and airflow aren't exactly the best, I have my fans set up correctly but I had some trouble corralling some of the cables, so it's not exactly neat.

I am using CPUID, and I noticed that with 2 tabs open in google chrome, it's sitting on a max temp of 45 idle, but i'm hanging around 42-43. Is this normal for a gpu, and mine at that?

That temperature is fine for the GTX 1070. What is your max temperature?

Case airflow and the rooms ambient temp are a possible cause

But another possible cause is if theres something in the background keeping the GPUs clocks some what raised.

Also, if you have the power settings set to Performance, that can also slightly raise the GPUs temps if something is being used by it. Having chrome open depending on the content shown can do this.

If you are using HWMonitor to check your temps, look at the GPUs clock speeds. If they are anything but what the Idle clocks should be, thats your answer.

40c is fine for idle, since the fan will often shut off when its not being used

Under 50*C is fairly normal for idle.

Why are you looking at just HWMonitor for that info anyways?
Install MSI Afterburner. Go to Settings > Monitoring
GPU Temp > Set it up for both "OSD and TrayIcon"
Then you will always be able to see GPU Temp as a ## Icon when at Desktop.
Once you OK the settings, RiveTuner icon should now be available in notification bar
set that up for how you want "OSD" related info to look in-game.

^ All this, as well the temperature of your room will have an effect on your hardware temperature.

The more heat in your room, the more it will affect the temperature of the GPU for being idle.

Also, after a long period of time of playing a game, or using software that uses your GPU, it will take some time for the temperature go down, as it will dissipate the heat it has generated, at the rate of the fans are spinning at, or if the fans are not spinning, which is normal for the GTX 1070, will take about up to 10 minutes, to reach a decent idle temperature.

So if your room temperature is around 25C - 27C / 77F - 80F, then that's normal for the card to be at 40C - 45C. Also, I can tell you from experience, I have an A/C to cool my home, which I forgot to turn off after a long period of time, which cause my room temperature to below as 18C / 64F, which I notice the GPU idle temperature hanging around 26C - 30C.

But you should find the reason for it if the GPUs clocks are raised and not Idle

HWMonitor will give you an idea either way for the cause

You need to lighten up a little.

Under 50*C is fine for idle. But really, idle doesn't matter, what it is reaching under full loads does. Why does idle not matter? Well if it's not nearing the max when under full loads, then what is the issue or concern?

I look at idle, sure. That can help me know if something is wrong with my Fans, etc...
But 40*C vs 50*C at idle... quite irrelevant.

i think i have it on some super high setting like turbo in the gigabyte software, but it won't let me open it right now,.
